Job purpose/summary The manager, power origination oversees Platte River's procurement efforts to reliably and economically serve owner communities while advancing the organization's clean energy transformation. This role provides strategic direction for soliciting and procuring renewables, batteries, and peaking resources aligned with Platte River's resource portfolio strategy and leads the development and execution of commercial strategies that support cost effective resource development, and clean energy solutions within complex regulatory, policy, and market environments. Essential duties and responsibilities Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization Seek opportunities to expand revenue and realize costs savings through partnerships, power markets, and bilateral transactions Oversees development of work plans to optimize the integration of additional renewable resources, batteries, and peaking generation into its portfolio Oversee the development of proposals, pricing, due diligence, presentations, and responses for RFPs Identify new origination opportunities across all technologies and products and implement an outreach strategy for projects under development Coordinate closely with internal departments to develop solutions to serve owner communities Originate deal opportunities and assist with structuring large wholesale power transactions Facilitates collaboration and creative solutions amongst regional power players Stays informed of possible changes to resource adequacy requirements that will impact the service territory and provides appropriate input to protect its interests Oversees the development of an operating budget and obtain appropriate senior level buy-in Other functions Oversees the development of models that seeks to optimize either value or reliability benefits of existing and future battery resources Oversees the development of various near and longer-term power supply analysis necessary to support other departments Performs other duties as assigned Supervisory controls Provides direct supervision to professional, technical and skilled employees to maintain alignment with department and organizational goals and objectives. Functions as an advisor to department and sets objectives for employees to achieve operational goals. Enables training and development opportunities for direct reports and employees in area of responsibility. Acts as a mentor for employees within larger department. Provides guidance, analyzes issues and resolves conflicts within area of responsibility. Collaborates with others on cross-functional projects. Champions organizational policies and exercises objective judgment and decision making within department. Knowledge, skills, and abilities Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation skills and the ability to listen and respond effectively and influence others Extensive knowledge of the electric utility operations, including power production, power delivery and power market operations Knowledge of key provisions in various purchased power agreements and contract negotiations Demonstrated leadership skills to include the development of effective work teams, building and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships, and presenting leadership image in all situations Ability to coach and develop employees and to lead a diverse group of people Ability to effectively balance day-to-day operations with long-term planning and prioritize competing demands is preferred Ability to develop strong collaborative relationships with peers and demonstrate leadership within the organization is preferred Qualifications Required education and licenses Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, economics or related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and work experience Current valid driver's license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy Required work experience Minimum of six years of progressive business experience in origination, energy trading, contract negotiations, project management and analysis Minimum of four years of leadership and management experience Minimum of three years working with an existing organized energy market Preferred education, licenses and work experience Experience managing the submission and administration of generation interconnection requests and transmission service requests Advanced degree in engineering, business administration, economics or related field from an accredited college or university Physical demands Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Minimal walking or standing as needed. Hazards Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident. Work environment Exposure to routine office noise and equipment Pay Salaries are paid bi-weekly and are annualized below for reference. Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include special skills, years of experience, education, and certifications.
