Job Description
Deal Origination Associate The Anderson Group LLC Saint Petersburg, FL Job Details Full-time 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance 401(k) Qualifications Investment Business development Prospecting Financial services Full Job Description We are a Tampa Bay based private equity firm specializing in turnarounds, special situations, and recapitalizations. We partner with business owners navigating complexity, whether that's financial distress, operational challenges, ownership transitions, or the need for a capital structure reset. We are seeking a driven, entrepreneurial Deal Originations Associate to join our team and build the pipeline that fuels our investment activity. We are looking for a natural relationship-builder and relentless self-starter who can assist in generating deal flow (via phone and email) by connecting with advisors who work with business owners (investment bankers, restructuring advisors, attorneys, accountants, and brokers) to identify investment opportunities where our firm can generate value. This is a high-volume, phone and email-first, role. A meaningful portion of daily activity involves building relationships with intermediaries and transaction advisors. Success depends on persistence, professionalism, and the ability to become a trusted and recognizable contact across the community. What You'll Do Conduct high-volume outbound outreach, primarily phone calls and emails, to transaction advisors (investment bankers, restructuring advisors, business brokers, attorneys, and accountants), positioning the firm as a reliable, knowledgeable buyer for their deal flow. Build and work through targeted prospect lists across industries and geographies aligned with the firm's investment criteria. Execute consistent, multi-touch follow-up cadences across calls, emails, and other channels to move conversations forward. Set qualified introductory meetings and manage warm handoffs to senior deal professionals. Conduct initial conversations with transaction advisors to understand their client's financial situation, ownership structure, and appetite for a transaction. Apply a working knowledge of basic financial concepts such as revenue, EBITDA, assets, and liabilities to assess whether an opportunity meets the firm's investment criteria. Prepare brief opportunity summaries capturing key business details, owner motivations, and preliminary fit for internal review and presentation at weekly firm meetings. Maintain detailed, up-to-date records of all outreach activity, conversations, and opportunity status within the firm's CRM system. Track pipeline metrics including outreach volume, contact rates, conversion rates, and qualified opportunities generated. Provide regular updates to senior team members on sourcing activity and pipeline health. Proactively cultivate relationships with investment bankers, restructuring advisors, business brokers, M&A attorneys, accountants, and other intermediaries who regularly encounter or advise business owners. Position the firm as a credible buyer within the advisor communities through consistent, professional engagement. Stay top-of-mind with key referral sources through regular outreach, check-ins, and relationship maintenance; not just transactional contact when a deal is needed. Develop a working familiarity with the types of situations the firm targets (turnarounds, distressed businesses, recapitalizations, and ownership transitions) and communicate them credibly to advisors and prospective counterparties alike. Contribute ideas for improving outreach strategy, messaging, and targeting based on real-world feedback from both owner and advisor conversations. Attend industry events, receptions, and conferences where you will be tasked with the same business development objectives but in-person. What We're Looking For 1-4 years of direct, hands-on experience in business development within the financial services sector (does not need to be M&A-specific). Proven track record of high-volume outbound activity and comfort with cold calling and rejection.
A genuine self-starter:
you do not need to be told to pick up the phone. You set your own pace and hold yourself accountable. Entrepreneurial mindset:
you think about how to work smarter, improve your approach, and take ownership of your results. Basic understanding of financial statements:
you should be able to look at an income statement and balance sheet and understand what they tell you about a business. Strong verbal communicator with the ability to build rapport quickly across a range of counterparties. Professional presence and follow-through that earns the respect of sophisticated intermediaries over time. Highly organized with the ability to manage a large, active pipeline without dropping the ball on follow-up. Genuine curiosity about business, investing, and how companies get in and out of difficult situations. Bachelor's degree preferred; demonstrated results and work ethic will outweigh credentials.
