About the PWHL The Professional Women's Hockey League delivers world-class competition and fosters meaningful connections with fans and communities through operational excellence, purposeful partnerships, and a focus on long-term sustainability. Position Summary Reporting to the General Manager, the Head Equipment Manager is responsible for the procurement, distribution, inventory, and maintenance of the Detroit team apparel, uniforms, and equipment for athletes, coaches, and staff. This is a hands-on, high-accountability role that sits at the intersection of hockey operations and player performance. The ideal candidate is dedicated, detail-oriented, and takes pride in supporting an elite team through operational excellence. Key Duties & Responsibilities Oversee daily equipment preparation and setup for all practices and games. Purchase, distribute, store, and maintain accountability of team apparel, uniforms, and equipment. Manage and track all financial expenditures related to equipment. Launder uniforms, practice gear, towels, and other materials used daily. Oversee locker room breakdown for home and visiting teams. Manage all aspects of the team's equipment and apparel inventory within the league's digital Inventory Management platform. Manage the Assistant Equipment Manager position, as well as gameday assistants Provide oversight of all equipment-related ground transportation operations. Oversee packing of equipment for team travel, including packing, unpacking, and movement of equipment while in transit (trucks, buses, aircraft). Ensure all uniforms and related equipment are maintained in a clean and serviceable condition at all times. Perform technical duties including skate sharpening, skate riveting, sewing, and equipment repair. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications A minimum of five (5) years' experience as an Equipment Manager in a hockey environment. Expertise in hockey equipment management, including skate sharpening, sewing, and other technical facets of the role. Demonstrated ability to lead others and work effectively within a team. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong work ethic with a sense of urgency and pride in one's work. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work professionally with a wide range of constituents. Commitment to inclusivity, integrity, accountability, and a collaborative approach. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and travel domestically and internationally as required. Preferred Qualifications Experience at the professional or elite level is considered a strong asset. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is considered an asset. Flexibility & Travel This role requires full on-site presence at all PWHL Detroit home games, practices, and events. The Head Equipment Manager will travel with the team for all away games and road trips, including domestic and international travel via bus and air. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required throughout the season.
