Job Description

Supervise, develop, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for providing a variety of aquatic services and activities including youth, inter-generational, adult, and elderly programs; develop program goals and objectives; develop and coordinate aquatics program activities including the operation and maintenance of assigned pools; assist in the hiring of all Aquatics personnel; ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures and perform the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for providing a variety of aquatic services and activities including youth, inter-generational, adult, and elderly. Establish schedules and methods for providing assigned aquatic programs and services; identify resource needs, review needs with appropriate management staff and allocate resources accordingly. Participate in the development of policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures. Develop and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives, implement approved policies and procedures. Plan, develop and monitor programs designed for special needs of the community, modify programs to meet participant needs. Design, develop and deliver workshops and presentations targeted at addressing and resolving Health and Safety issues. Promote and coordinate specific activities within the Aquatics Division; prepare program event and facility marketing material including news releases, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures. Participate in the preparation and administration of the budget of assigned aquatics facilities; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures. Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the fields of health care, recreational therapy and management of Aquatic facilities. Coordinate swimming lesson programs and swim team activities, hire and train lifeguards in proper water safety techniques. Ensure proper operation and maintenance of pool facilities; maintain and monitor water chemistry levels and adjust as needed, stay abreast of new trends. Monitor and comply with rules and regulations related to provision of aquatic programs and related services. Develop, monitor and implement maintenance schedules of pool facilities. Maintain records, develop reports concerning maintenance activities and water chemistry monitoring at all assigned facilities. Coordinate hiring and proper training of aquatic instructors including Lifeguard, C.P.R., A.E.D. and first aid training; maintain instructor certificates. Coordinate hiring and proper training of aquatics personnel including, cashiers lifeguards, supervisors, operations supervisors and maintenance personnel. Schedule usage of pool facilities for special events and other activities including swimming lessons, rentals and swim meets; coordinate usage of facilities for outside agencies. Develop and Coordinate incident prevention strategies for assigned aquatic facilities and special events.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS
Respond to and resolve citizen inquiries and complaints. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in aquatics, physical education, emergency medicine, recreation, business administration, or public administration; and Five (5) years of municipal aquatics program experience; and To include two (2) years of supervisory experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire. Possession of a valid C.P.R. certificate. Possession of a valid First Aid certificate. Possession of a valid Lifeguard certificate. Possession of a valid Water Safety Instructor certificate or equivalent. Possession of valid Instructors certificate; American Red Cross LGI or equivalent. Possession of a valid Pool Operators License or equivalent. Possession of a Cash handling/imprest funds certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.
Environmental:
Office Environment; exposure to computer monitors; pool environment; exposure to heat, potentially hazardous chemicals, inclement weather conditions, work in or with water, work on slippery or uneven surfaces.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for heavy lifting, walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; swimming; bending, stooping and kneeling.
