Job Summary:
(S)VP of BD is responsible for driving business development activities including strategic partnerships, licensing, M&A, and R D and/or commercial collaborations. The (S)VP sets strategy in conjunction with Senior Leadership and operates independently on day-to-day execution and management of external relationships. The (S)VP leads deal strategy from identification through execution, working closely with research, clinical, manufacturing, legal and finance teams on deal execution and alliance management. The (S)VP has the latitude to negotiate routine contracts and partners with CFO and legal counsel on key provisions, complex deal structures, strategic partnerships, and M&A.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Growth Partners with Senior Leadership on business development strategy Monitors industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging areas of interest•with a particular focus on immunology Continuously identifies, evaluates, and prioritizes partnering, licensing, and M&A opportunities that align with corporate and pipeline objectives Deal Sourcing & Execution Independently sources and drives dialog around partnership and M&A opportunities (including in-licensing, out-licensing, co-development/co-commercialization, and other potential structures) Leads deal execution including routine contract structuring, and collaborates with research, clinical, manufacturing, legal and finance teams on due diligence Partners with CFO and legal counsel on key contract provisions, complex deal structures, strategic partnerships, and M&A External Relationships Independently cultivates relationships across pharma, biotech, and academic collaborators, including key decision makers Represents Seismic at partner meetings and industry conferences Cross Functional Leadership Partner with research, clinical, manufacturing, and finance teams to assess scientific and future commercial viability Establish best practices for deal evaluation and execution Align business development initiatives with corporate strategy and capital allocation strategies Present opportunities, recommendations and deal rationale to
Senior Leadership Background & Skill Set:
15+ (SVP) years of business development experience in a related field (pharma, biotech, M&A investment banking, consulting) Preference for experience in both private and public company deal structuring Preference for large pharma BD&L experience Demonstrated track record of driving successful licensing, partnership, and/or M&A deals through closing and integration Independent, strategic thinker with the ability to translate complex science into business and shareholder value Highly developed communication and presentation skills Extensive and seasoned business development network across pharma and biotech, including relationships with senior level decision makers Active within the biotech community Advanced degree (MBA, MD, PhD) preferred but not required
