Job Description

Assists in the overall functions of the office of the Commissioner of the Revenue. Assists in the direction and daily functions of the Commissioner of Revenue's Office. Assists in the preparation of the department budget. Ensures timely and efficient training of the staff. Audits business personal property returns and Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) information. Issues business licenses and prepares Virginia State Income Tax Returns. Processes remittances of meals tax, transient occupancy tax and public utility taxes. Enforces compliance; pursues delinquent filers; maintains all records; and prepares reports. Maintains and administers department payroll. Approves purchase orders and payment vouchers. Assists with and directs departmental projects as assigned. Acts as the Commissioner in the absence of the Commissioner. Supervises approximately four employees in the Commissioner of the Revenue office. Carries our supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance and addressing complaints. Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or other related field. Two to three years related experience or training in state and city tax work and effective customer service; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Office 365, etc. Ability to analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries orally and in writing. Ability to plan, organize, direct and motivate the activities of others. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Contingent upon a favorable criminal background check.
