Dispatcher

at Homeland Transport Inc. in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, United States Job Description Responsible for coordinating and managing the daily scheduling, routing, and communication of commercial drivers and vehicles to ensure the timely and efficient transportation of freight. The position supports transportation operations by assigning loads, monitoring fleet activity, maintaining communication with drivers and customers, and responding to operational changes while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable transportation regulations. The position utilizes real-time tracking technologies and dispatch management platforms to assign loads, monitor fleet activity, respond to disruptions, and maintain compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Serves as a central liaison between drivers, customers, and internal departments to ensure effective fleet utilization and high-quality service delivery.

Specific duties include:

Assign and dispatch drivers to routes and loads based on delivery schedules, vehicle availability, and customer requirements. Monitor vehicle locations, delivery status, and estimated arrival times using dispatch systems and GPS tracking tools. Communicate route assignments, delivery instructions, and schedule updates to drivers via dispatch software, phone, or electronic communication systems. Coordinate with customers regarding pickup and delivery times, service changes, and delivery status updates. Respond to operational issues such as delays, traffic disruptions, equipment problems, weather conditions, or last-minute schedule changes, and adjust dispatch plans accordingly. Ensure drivers comply with applicable transportation regulations, including hours-of-service requirements and company safety procedures. Maintain accurate dispatch records, trip logs, schedules, delivery confirmations, and related operational documentation. Coordinate with maintenance, safety, and management personnel to ensure vehicle readiness and uninterrupted operations. Support daily transportation operations by providing administrative and operational assistance related to dispatching activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

: High school diploma or foreign equivalent and two (2) years of experience in the job offered or in a related transportation logistics role.

REQUIRED SKILLS

: Specific skills acquired must include each of the following: Knowledge of transportation logistics and dispatching procedures. Experience using dispatch software, routing platforms, or GPS tracking systems. Ability to coordinate schedules and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain accurate records and operational documentation. Effective communication skills for interacting with drivers, customers, and internal staff.
