Job Description

U. S. Steel in Granite City IL, is seeking an Emergency Services Dispatcher. This position involves multi-tasking and maintaining control of a dispatch center that monitors plant operations, fire alarms, security alarms and multiple other computer-based services. Ability to communicate on a wireless radio system, and via a phone system, to employees and emergency responders. Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and shift work. This job is within a heavy industrial environment and may be required to work within various areas of the Granite City Works facility. The responsibilities of an Emergency Services dispatcher include: Monitoring and recording the location of on-duty Emergency Services personnel Taking both 911 and non-emergency calls for service Performing data base queries. Assigning case numbers and recording case notes Using computers and computer-aided dispatch Monitoring emergency and non-emergency radio traffic Operating radio communication equipment Dispatching patrol officers to calls for service Providing assistance to officers by contacting other services as needed Dispatching both emergency and non-emergency calls for service
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED and a valid driver's license required Ability to handle stressful emergency situations Ability to conduct investigations and document facts in an electronic report format Ability to receive emergency medical dispatch status after hire Proficient computer skills, and ability to learn proprietary computer systems Ability to operate general office equipment, i.e. Printers, Copiers, fax machines, etc. Bi-weekly salary rate $2,281.87. This is a good faith estimate.
