Public Safety Telecommunicator Spencer County Dispatch•Make a Difference Every Shift Are you calm under pressure? Can you think clearly when seconds matter? Spencer County Dispatch is seeking dedicated professionals who are ready to serve as the vital link between our community and first responders. This is not just a job — this is public safety at its core. Pay & Schedule $21.00/hour during training (3-6 months) $22.00/hour after successful completion of training/probation (6 months) Training rotations include:
Dayshift:
8:00 AM•4:00
PM Evening Shift:
4:00 PM•12:00
AM Overnight Shift:
12:00 AM•8:00 AM Shift assignments are subject to change each January due to shift bids After training: On-call 2 weeks out of every 7 weeks What You'll Do Public Safety Telecommunicators are the lifeline for residents and responders.
You will:
Answer emergency and non-emergency calls Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS units Monitor multiple radio frequencies Document all activity in Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Prioritize calls based on urgency Provide critical information and directions to responders Maintain accurate response time records Manage warrants, accident records, wreckers, and national database searches Operate
NCIC/IDACS
systems Access License Plate Reader systems and local school cameras Activate emergency weather sirens (St. Meinrad, Rockport, Gentryville) Maintain strict confidentiality Meet national standards for call handling and dispatching Qualifications & Skills We are looking for individuals who: Thrive in high-stress, fast-paced environments Can multitask efficiently across multiple systems Possess strong verbal communication skills Type 35+ WPM (required) Can read GIS and paper maps and understand local geography Maintain composure during critical incidents Required Certifications (Provided During Employment) Telecommunicators must complete and maintain: Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification Fire Dispatch Certification Law Enforcement Dispatch Certification

Public Safety Telecommunicator 40-hour Course Compliance with Indiana Senate Bill 158 training standards Continuing education is required annually. Agencies & Communities We Serve Spencer County Dispatch serves communities throughout Spencer County including: Carter, Clay, Grass, Hammond, Harrison, Huff, Jackson, Luce, Ohio, Buffaloville, Chrisney, Dale, Eureka, Evanston, Fulda, Gentryville, Grandview, Hatfield, Lamar, Lincoln City, Mariah Hill, Midway, New Boston, Newtonville, Patronville, Richland, Rockport, Santa Claus, St. Meinrad, and rural surrounding areas.
We dispatch for:
Spencer County Sheriff's Office Rockport, Santa Claus, Gentryville, Chrisney & Dale Police Departments Multiple fire districts and township departments Spencer County Emergency Ambulance Service EMA Search & Rescue & Water Rescue Spencer County Coroner's Office We also coordinate with state and federal agencies, hospitals, helicopter EMS, utilities, schools, Indiana State Police, National Weather Service, and many more partners.
