This requires us to deliver on our promises and always look for new opportunities to grow, both ourselves and our business. Job Purpose The Director of Dispatch Operations is responsible for leading the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of dispatch, driver, and facilities operations. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this role oversees daily dispatch performance, driver workforce deployment, and facilities readiness to support uninterrupted transportation operations. The Director provides leadership to dispatch supervisors and facilities oversight staff, with indirect oversight of union drivers. This position is accountable for operational execution, workforce productivity, facilities condition and security, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement, ensuring alignment with company standards, safety requirements, and performance objectives established by the Vice President of Operations.

Key Accountabilities Lead daily dispatch and facilities operations to ensure safe, reliable, and cost‑effective service delivery.

Execute operational strategies and standards aligned with Operations leadership direction.

Oversee driver scheduling, utilization, and deployment in compliance with labor agreements.

Monitor and improve key performance indicators, including service reliability, safety, utilization, and cost control.

Manage day‑to‑day labor issues, including escalation, discipline, arbitration, and mediation processes.

Direct dispatch and facilities leadership staff, ensuring consistent performance management, training, and accountability.

Ensure operational compliance with all applicable DOT, FMCSA, PHMSA, OSHA, and hazardous materials regulations.

Oversee facilities readiness, maintenance, security, and emergency response capabilities.

Develop, implement, and maintain dispatch and facilities standards, SOPs, policies, and documentation.

Partner with Fleet, Safety, and Operations leadership on asset management, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

Lead labor relations strategy, contract negotiations, and workforce planning.

Serve as the primary liaison across Dispatch, Facilities, Fleet, Safety, and Operations functions.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or operational leadership experience of 10 or more years is required.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in dispatch, transportation, logistics, or operations is required.
  • Proven experience overseeing dispatch operations and supporting facilities or terminal operations is required.
  • Demonstrated success managing supervisors in a unionized environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of: Dispatch systems Facilities and security systems Emergency and incident management tools Training platforms (e.g., JJ Keller, Smith System) Labor relations, mediation, arbitration, and contract administration Operational and reporting systems
  • Strong working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, PHMSA, OSHA, and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Solid understanding of facilities operations, including safety inspections, maintenance coordination, and operational security.
  • Experience leveraging dispatch, GPS, and operational reporting systems to drive performance.
  • Execution-focused operational leader with strong accountability and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple operational domains simultaneously (dispatch, facilities, workforce).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communicator with union workforce, supervisors, and executive leadership.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
