Job Title 911 Dispatcher Work Location In person Job Type Paid Position Overview Join our dedicated emergency response team as a 911 Dispatcher, where your quick thinking and compassionate communication can make a life-saving difference. In this vital role, you will serve as the critical link between callers in distress and first responders, coordinating emergency services with precision and professionalism. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will ensure that every call is handled efficiently, providing reassurance and clarity during some of the most urgent moments in people's lives. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where your skills directly impact community safety and well-being. Responsibilities Answer multi-line phone systems promptly and professionally while demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and communication skills. Assess emergency calls through phone triage and gather essential information using medical terminology, law enforcement protocols, and analytical skills. Dispatch police, fire, EMS, or other emergency responders accurately using GPS and GIS technology to determine precise locations. Provide critical instructions to callers regarding first aid procedures, CPR, or other emergency medical assistance while coordinating with response teams. Maintain detailed and accurate records through data entry and transcription of call information, incident reports, and shift logs. Manage conflict situations calmly using negotiation and de-escalation techniques. Operate multi-line phone systems efficiently while handling multiple calls simultaneously under pressure. Qualifications Minimum Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED required. Valid Michigan driver's license and eligibility to drive required. Must pass a background check. Must maintain a direct 24/7 phone number for contact purposes. Must have reliable transportation. Ability to handle high-stress situations for extended periods of time. Ability to sit or stand for up to 12 hours per shift. Ability to type at least 35 words per minute. Familiarity with Windows and email programs. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays without exception, as 911 is a 24/7 operation. Must be able to work reasonable amounts of overtime, sometimes on short notice. Strong ability to focus and multi-task. Good hearing, good vision (including color vision), and manual dexterity required. Must be able to read, speak, and communicate clearly in English. Must be able to pass a physical examination and drug screening. Must have at least 6 months of prior employment in a customer service-related position. Preferred Qualifications Strong understanding of GIS (Geographic Information Systems), GPS technology, and law enforcement, fire service, and EMS procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology, first aid practices, and basic rescue protocols. Demonstrated analytical skills for assessing situations quickly and making sound decisions. Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear instructions over the phone during high-stress scenarios. Proficiency in typing, data entry, transcription, and operating multi-line phone systems efficiently. Ability to handle security-sensitive information with discretion and professionalism. Residence in Ogemaw County or within 50 miles of Ogemaw County preferred.
