Job Description
The Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) works under the supervision of Director of Clinical Operations of Buchanan County EMS (BCEMS). Performs all duties and functions necessary for coordinating and dispatching the most efficient use of ambulance and wheelchair transport resources to best meet customer demand. Enters data into computer-aided dispatch (CAD). Monitors critical levels and unit hour shutdowns. Performs pre-planning and managing all MCI and disaster scenarios, including the procurement and coordination of outside resources to meet medical and transportation needs. Will be required to read maps and assisting with locator aids to select the fastest and safest routes to scenes. Will obtain and record complete and accurate data required by field personnel and management staff. Receives ambulance call information effectively. Dispatches appropriate vehicles, assisting crews in routing to calls. Maintains system coverage of service area. Provides callers with pre-arrival information. Initiates authorized contingency/disaster plan as requested. Operates all communication equipment in control room in accordance with applicable regulations. Operates computerized dispatch system; collects and enters data in system database. Secures relief staffing for unscheduled vacancies, minimizing overtime expense. Documents and files all dispatch papers. Maintains attendance records, payroll worksheets, overtime log. Performs patient registration\service charges and other electronic business records as trained and assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
