invites applications for the position of: 911 Telecommunicator
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Our Telecommunicators are the lifeline that connects the community to the emergency responders. They are the first point of contact during an emergency, are responsible for triaging calls, gathering information and providing necessary aid. SCHEDULE:
The Public Safety Communications Center operates 24 hours a day. The typical shifts for this position are 06:00-18:00, 18:00-06:00 and 12:00-00:00. Vacancies are filled in a manner that best fit the needs of the community and or the agency. The two-week schedule is as follows: Work Monday Tuesday Off Wednesday Thursday Work Friday Saturday and Sunday Off Monday and Tuesday Work Wednesday and Thursday Off Friday, Saturday, Sunday

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
An employee in this position works an assigned shift and receives incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatches and maintains contact with police units, dispatches calls for fire, and mutual aid as required. Work includes operating dispatch equipment, computer terminal connected to the Division of Criminal Information (DCI) and the National Crime Information Center, and using State of NC databases for items such as warrants and missing persons. Work also involves the performance of detailed record keeping, monitoring public and private alarms, entering data and filing of police incidents and filing of related documents, and updating status and locations of public safety personnel. This position reports to the Communications Shift Supervisor. Requires regular supervision on routine work. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS
Emergency Response:
Receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, law enforcement, and other agencies.
Dispatch Services:
Dispatch appropriate personnel and resources to incidents, ensuring timely and accurate response.
Information Gathering:
Obtain essential information from callers to assess the nature and severity of incidents.
Resource Coordination:
Coordinate with emergency service and local agencies to facilitate a collaborative and cohesive response.
Technology Utilization:
Effectively use computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, GIS mapping tools, and other relevant technologies to enhance communication and response efforts.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Position requires a High School Diploma or GED and less than 1 year of experience in dispatching and communications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess or ability to obtain a valid Division of Criminal Information operator's certificate along with NC Sheriff's Education Training and Standards Basic Telecommunicator and
NIMS/ICS
certifications within six months of employment.
