Job Description
Performs intermediate technical work on an assigned shift dispatching law enforcement, fire, emergency medical service and non-emergency calls for service, and related work as apparent or assigned. This position requires rotating shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Telecommunicator Shift Supervisor. Receives and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls utilizing Emergency Dispatch protocols, including Medical Dispatch.. Operates radios, telephone, switchboard, alarm systems, recording devices and computer terminals. Dispatches emergency equipment and personnel where and when needed. Receives and transmits messages by radio and maintains radio log. Maintains log of police calls during shift; keeps necessary records on all calls. Works 12-hour rotating shifts. Performs other assigned duties. General knowledge of the methods of operating the communication system; general knowledge of radio and teletype procedures. General knowledge of the geography of the County and location of important buildings. Ability to type at a reasonable rate of speed. Knowledge of Dare County operations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job. Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing. Skill in the use of various types of office equipment (e.g., copier, fax, document scanner, multi-line telephone system, etc.). Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel and the public. High school diploma or equivalent. One to three (1-3) months of experience in related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Special Requirements:
Obtain DCI (Division Criminal Information), Sheriff's Training and Standards Certification Basic Telecommunicator and the National Emergency Medical Dispatching Certification, and CPR certification within one year of hire. Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina. Rotating shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be a US citizen. Must be able to type a minimum of 35 words per minute. Preliminary skills screening test required. Background investigation, physical exam and drug screen required.Similar remote jobs
