Join our Communications Center at the Nebraska State Patrol and be our next Headset Hero! Operates radio, teletype, Communication Aided Dispatch (CAD), various computer systems and telephone communications devices to collect and distribute restricted access, mission critical information to and from law enforcement officers and other public safety workers. Communicates with the public in routine and emergency situations. Successful candidate must be able to maintain positive working relationships while performing duties in close proximity to co-workers. Applicants must successfully pass pre-employment hearing and eyesight exams. Applicants must pass a pre-employment psychological exam. Applicants must successfully pass the NDST within their probationary period from date of hire. Applicants must successfully complete Combined Law Enforcement Information Network (CLEIN) training. Applicants must become National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certified within twelve months from the date of hire. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment. Requirements /Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications :
Experience in communicating with others. Must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent to ensure successful completion of required training.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working as a communications dispatcher preferred.Other:

Applicants will be screened for a record of criminal activity and criminal history using a fingerprint-based check, before a final offer of employment is made. Applicant must successfully complete an extensive background screening prior to being employed, which includes completion of a Personal History Questionnaire. Selection process will include an interview. Interested applicants are encouraged to schedule a tour of the facility prior to their interview.Knowledge Skills & Abilities Knowledge of:
Radio communications signals, formats, and codes Agency policies, rules, and regulations concerning communications and information dissemination Agency policies and procedures concerning emergency and non-emergency situations Criminal and vehicle law and related terminology Geography and topography of assigned area including major highways, intersections, and landmarks.Ability to:
Communicate both verbally and in writing Discern different levels of sound (telephones ringing, alert tones, etc.) and for listening to phone conversations or hearing the radio over other noise in the communication center Make rapid independent decisions while multi-tasking Withstand workload pressures Possess good vision in order to perform the task of reading and relaying teletype messages Track of reading and relaying teletype messages Track officers on computer displays Monitor access to communications room on television monitor, etc. Verbally communicate information distinctly, concisely, and non-emotionally under extreme stress Communicate effectively with people from all sectors under diverse and often stressful circumstances Maintain logs, manuals, and references in accordance with agency policies and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations.Skill in:
Operating communication center equipment Entering and retrieving information from Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), The International Justice and Public Safety Network (NLETS), and Nebraska Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NBLETS).
