Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic emergency response team as a 911 Telecommunicator / Dispatcher, where your quick thinking and exceptional communication skills will be the backbone of public safety. In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for emergency calls, providing critical assistance and dispatching law enforcement, fire, medical, and other emergency services efficiently and accurately. Your dedication ensures that help reaches those in need promptly while maintaining calm and professionalism under pressure. Duties Answer multi-line phone systems with professionalism, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and communication skills. Assess incoming emergency calls using phone triage techniques to determine the nature and severity of incidents. Gather detailed information from callers, including location data via GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and GPS (Global Positioning System) tools, to facilitate rapid response. Dispatch appropriate emergency units—law enforcement, fire, EMS—using efficient dispatching protocols while maintaining situational awareness. Maintain accurate data entry and transcription of call details into dispatch systems, ensuring clarity and completeness for responders. Utilize analysis skills to prioritize incidents effectively and manage multiple calls simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Manage conflict or high-stress situations with negotiation skills, providing reassurance to distressed callers while gathering essential information. Coordinate with first responders during emergencies, providing ongoing support such as medical terminology guidance or first aid instructions when necessary. Use security protocols to monitor radio communications and ensure operational safety during incidents. Qualifications Strong knowledge of GIS mapping, and multi-line phone systems enhances dispatch efficiency. Excellent communication skills with the ability to remain calm, clear, and professional under pressure. Demonstrated typing speed and data entry accuracy for quick documentation during emergencies. Experience in law enforcement or emergency services is a plus Ability to analyze complex situations rapidly and make sound decisions in high-stakes environments.
