Monday-Friday, scheduled anytime between 5:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Typically 8-hour shifts. Some Saturdays may be required.

Eligible after 60 days Job Summary Lawton Area Transit System is now hiring a Transit Dispatcher / Bus Operations Dispatcher to help support daily public transportation operations in Lawton, Oklahoma. This position plays a key role in keeping bus service safe, reliable, and on schedule by communicating with drivers, assisting passengers, monitoring route activity, and responding quickly to service disruptions. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, dependable, and able to make quick decisions in a fast-paced transportation environment. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in dispatching, public transportation, logistics, scheduling, customer service, bus operations, CDL driving, or fleet coordination . Key Responsibilities Dispatch Communication Serve as the main point of contact between bus drivers, passengers, supervisors, and other LATS personnel. Communicate important service updates, route information, delays, and operational instructions to drivers. Use radios, phones, dispatch software, and computer systems to support daily transit operations. Route and Bus Monitoring Monitor real-time bus locations, route performance, bus schedules, arrivals, departures, and service status. Identify delays, disruptions, missed stops, route issues, and service concerns. Keep accurate records of bus activity, driver communication, route changes, and operational updates. Problem Solving and Operations Support Respond to traffic delays, vehicle issues, mechanical problems, passenger concerns, accidents, emergencies, and other unexpected disruptions. Provide drivers with support and direction during stressful or time-sensitive situations. Work with supervisors and maintenance staff to help keep routes operating safely and efficiently. Customer Service Assist passengers with questions about bus schedules, routes, fares, service times, and transit policies. Respond professionally to passenger complaints, concerns, and service-related issues. Provide clear, respectful, and helpful communication to the public. Data Entry and Reporting Maintain organized records related to bus schedules, route performance, service disruptions, passenger concerns, and daily operations. Use Microsoft Office, dispatch software, and computer systems to enter, track, and report operational information. Help generate reports related to performance, service reliability, and daily transit activity. Emergency Response Coordination Coordinate communication during accidents, emergencies, severe weather, safety concerns, or service interruptions. Work with emergency services, law enforcement, supervisors, and drivers when needed. Follow LATS safety procedures and emergency response protocols. Technology and Software Use Use computerized dispatch systems, scheduling software, route monitoring tools, Microsoft Office, email, and other transportation-related programs. Maintain accurate information in dispatch and operations systems. Qualifications Previous experience in bus dispatching, transportation dispatch, logistics, public transportation, customer service, fleet operations, scheduling, or a related field is preferred. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful situations. Ability to make quick, informed decisions in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer skills required. Familiarity with transportation logistics, bus routes, dispatch software, or scheduling systems preferred. Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work assigned shifts between 5:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Some Saturday availability may be required. Must obtain a Full CDL with Passenger Endorsement .
