Job Description
Part-Time Trucking Dispatcher Overview SRT, a trucking company located in Elkridge, MD, is seeking a dynamic and highly organized Trucking Dispatcher to coordinate and oversee the daily operations of our freight transportation. This is currently a part-time position with strong potential to transition into a full-time role. The position offers a hybrid/flexible setup (in-office or partially remote) with an initial daytime schedule, though it may expand to include nights and weekends as the role grows.
Starting Pay:
$18.27 / hour
Requirements:
Prior dispatch or logistics experience is required, including proficiency with trucking software, load boards, GPS tracking, DOT regulations, and Hours-of-Service (HOS) rules. As a dispatcher, you will serve as the vital link between drivers, clients, and logistics teams to ensure timely deliveries and efficient fleet management. Your energetic approach will drive seamless dispatching processes, optimize routes, and uphold excellent communication standards.
Duties & Responsibilities Load Management:
Search, negotiate, and book loads based on specific company requirements using DAT and Truckstop load boards (experience with Dry Van and Flatbed trailers preferred).
Scheduling:
Coordinate driver schedules based on available loads, pickup locations, and strict delivery deadlines.
Communication:
Maintain constant communication with customers, brokers, and drivers regarding freight details, delivery/pickup times, and real-time status updates.
Route Planning:
Plan pre-determined routes, monitor vehicle locations via GPS, and dynamically accommodate route changes or disruptions as needed.
Documentation:
Prepare dispatch documents, generate freight bills, and process invoices.
Record Keeping:
Maintain meticulous, updated logs of dispatched calls, driver routes, driver locations, and load statuses.
Compliance:
Monitor driver logs and stay updated on DOT regulations and HOS laws to ensure absolute fleet compliance.
Maintenance Tracking:
Monitor truck repair needs and routine maintenance schedules.
Problem Solving:
Swiftly resolve unexpected delays, mechanical breakdowns, or customer complaints while keeping all stakeholders informed.
Qualifications & Skills Experience:
Proven track record in dispatching within a transportation or logistics environment.
Software Proficiency:
Strong knowledge of transportation management systems (e.g., AXIS, Motive) and fleet management/GPS software.
Industry Tools:
Hands-on experience with standard load boards (DAT, Truckstop).
Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to manage multi-line phone systems professionally and build strong relationships with brokers and drivers.
Operations:
Deep understanding of shipping & receiving procedures, freight documentation, and DOT regulations.
Core Skills:
High data-entry accuracy in fast-paced settings, strong multitasking abilities, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
