Primary Purpose:

Dispatch drivers and buses. Monitor and respond to two-way radio communications. Answer, record, and route telephone calls. Record driver absentee calls and assign substitutes. Coordinate all functions to ensure effective daily operation.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school graduate or GED Hold a valid class B - CDL driver's license with "P" and "S" endorsements preferred TEEX Dispatch certification preferred Successfully complete TEA Bus Driver certification class

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Able to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses Able to read and understand documents including policies and procedures manuals Able to receive and give written and verbal instructions Able to pass US Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years' experience in school bus operations preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Dispatch Dispatch all routes daily and prepare daily personnel report. Receive driver and monitor absentee calls and assign reserve drivers to fill all vacancies OR drive route when needed. Assign reserve buses in accordance with hold list and check all keys. Monitor radio, logs and dispatch daily road calls and report information to supervisor weekly. Receive, record, and report driver and bus monitor absence calls. Date stamp and distribute vehicle, route and student information. Respond to driver requests for assistance and dispatch tow trucks, emergency services, and additional equipment as needed. Compile, maintain, file all logs, worksheets, files, and reports related to dispatch operations. Other Maintain regular and reliable attendance. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned

None Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Manual Trades - Transportation Personnel.

Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions over, in and under vehicles

Motion:

Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; prolonged driving; moderate walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding; regular grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching

Lifting:

Frequent moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)

Environment:

Work outside and inside, on slippery, hard or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration and vehicle fumes; exposure to chemical and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; work early shift

Salary Range Min. $20.96 Mid. $25.25 Max. $29.08 (Based on previous experience) Salaries are determined by the number of completed and eligible years of service at an accredited school. Salary is based on 220 days. If working less than 220 days, the salary will be less.
