Job Description

Job Summary A Mortuary Removal Technician - Night Dispatch is responsible for the dignified and professional removal and transportation of deceased individuals from various locations, including private residences, hospitals, nursing homes, and accident scenes, to funeral homes, morgues, or medical examiner offices. This role requires compassion, discretion, physical stamina, and professionalism when interacting with grieving families and working alongside law enforcement, medical professionals, and funeral home staff.
Responsibilities Deceased Removal & Transportation:
Respond promptly to dispatch calls and safely transport deceased individuals.
Professional & Compassionate Interaction:
Provide support and reassurance to grieving families while maintaining professionalism and sensitivity.
Proper Handling & Documentation:
Complete necessary paperwork, including chain-of-custody forms, transfer authorizations, and death records.
Compliance & Safety:
Follow all local, state, and federal regulations regarding transporting and handling human remains.
Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance:
Ensure transport vehicles, stretchers, body bags, and other equipment are clean, maintained, and ready for use.
Availability & On-Call Responsibilities:
12-hour shifts 06:00 pm to 6:00 am, 2-week rotating schedule. Every other weekend off. Shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays, as mortuary removals often occur outside regular business hours.
Collaboration:
Work closely with funeral home directors, coroners, law enforcement, and medical personnel to ensure smooth transfers.
Requirements Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; additional mortuary science training is a plus.
Experience:
Prior experience in funeral services, emergency response, healthcare, or law enforcement is preferred but not required.
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; Must pass a background check.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and maneuver deceased individuals weighing over 200 lbs with assistance, work long hours, and handle physically and emotionally demanding situations.
Skills & Traits:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations. Attention to detail and ability to follow protocols. Discretion and respect for confidentiality. Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
Compensation:
$16.00 to 18.00 hourly, depending on experience.
