Responsibilities:
Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive communication strategies and public outreach initiatives for the Office of Emergency Management. This position serves as a point of contact for media relations, community engagement, and crisis communication, ensuring effective dissemination of critical information to the public. Work schedule is subject to a 12-hour shift during a disaster or emergency operations center activation.
Status:
Full-time, non-exempt, benefited Working hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Available to work a 12-hour shift during a disaster or emergency operations center activation.
Location:
Columbia, Missouri Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with major course work in journalism, communications, emergency management, public relations, or other related field and one year of experience in community engagement, community development, community partnerships, and/or emergency management; or an equivalent combination of related experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work. Must possess a clear criminal history. Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license. Availability for after-hours staffing of special events, community outreach events, emergency operation center activations or other emergencies, as required. Available to work a 12-hour shift during a disaster or emergency operations center activation.
Preferred Skills:
Master's degree in emergency management, public administration, or related field; FEMA Public Information Officer certifications; experience in government or non-profit communications; bilingual skills (Spanish preferred).
Starting Hourly Pay Rate:
$24.41 - $25.15 per hour
