Job Description

Position Summary The Emergency Management Intern will assist the Emergency Manager and staff with disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts. This hands-on internship provides an opportunity to gain experience in emergency planning, coordination, and community outreach within the Village of Ruidoso. The internship is a temporary position and the intern can expect to work approximately 20-25 hours per week. Key Responsibilities Support emergency planning efforts by assisting in developing and reviewing emergency operations plans (EOPs), hazard mitigation plans, and continuity of operations plans (COOPs). Assist with coordinating emergency preparedness training exercises, drills, and community outreach programs. Conduct research on best practices in emergency management and offer recommendations for program enhancements. Help maintain emergency management databases, documentation, and resource inventories. During training, exercises, and real-world events, participate in Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activities. Participate in and contribute to interagency meetings, working groups, and emergency management briefings. Offer administrative and logistical assistance to the Emergency Management Department as required. The foregoing position description does not include all the duties to which the employee may be assigned. To ensure maximum flexibility and efficiency and to encourage cross-training, the emergency manager will assign employees additional duties as deemed necessary. Qualifications & Requirements 1. Strong written and verbal communication skills. 2. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 3. )Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and research skills. 4. Have an interest in Emergency Management, Disaster Recovery, and Crisis Management. 5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. 6. Willingness to learn and adapt to dynamic emergencies. 7. Must be able to pass a background check and drug test. 8. Have a New Mexico driver's license. Preferred Qualifications 1 . Familiar with the Incident Command System (ICS) and the National Incident Management System. 2. Experience with emergency notification systems or Geographic Information Systems (GIS). 3. Prior experience in public safety, disaster response, or community outreach.
