We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented part-time Facilities Manager to oversee the ongoing maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and operational functionality of our theater facilities. This hands-on role is responsible for coordinating routine facility upkeep, managing minor repairs and vendor services, supporting custodial needs, and serving as the organization's primary point person for workplace safety, compliance, and building operations. The Facilities Manager is responsible for keeping our theatre spaces safe, clean, and welcoming for staff, artists, and audiences. This hands-on role blends day-to-day maintenance and repairs with vendor coordination, safety compliance, and long-term facility planning. The ideal candidate brings a practical approach to problem-solving, a keen eye for cleanliness and detail, and the organizational skills to thrive in a busy performing arts environment. Working knowledge of building systems and OSHA/Cal-OSHA requirements is essential. The Facilities Manager reports to the General Manager. Key Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day maintenance, upkeep, and functionality of all theater facilities, including performance spaces, backstage areas, offices, rehearsal rooms, storage spaces, and public areas. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, including changing lightbulbs, repairing furniture and fixtures, painting touch-ups, troubleshooting equipment issues, and addressing general wear and tear. Coordinate and supervise outside vendors and contractors, including electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, pest control providers, and other service professionals as needed. Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility environment through regular cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, organizing shared spaces, and monitoring restroom and facility supply needs, maintaining consistently high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the facility. Manage waste and recycling operations, including oversight of weekly Recology trash, compost, and recycling services, bin placement, and compliance with local waste-sorting requirements. Monitor facility systems and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation, including regular oversight of building climate systems to ensure appropriate temperature and humidity levels, escalating issues and recommending repairs or improvements when necessary. Serve as the organization's primary point person for safety across all building areas, including backstage work areas. Review, maintain, and update safety procedures, emergency protocols, SDS/HazMat documentation, backstage safety policies, and related compliance materials to ensure ongoing adherence to applicable OSHA, Cal/OSHA, fire code, and industry safety standards. Conduct regular safety inspections of backstage, shop, storage, and public-facing areas to identify hazards and recommend corrective action. Support production and administrative teams with facility-related needs during rehearsals, performances, events, rentals, and special projects including coordination of facility preparation, resets, and load-in/load-out support between productions. Respond promptly to urgent facility issues and coordinate emergency repairs when required. Manage building access systems, including key distribution, lock changes, and coordination with security systems or alarm providers, ensuring appropriate access for staff, renters, and contractors. Assist leadership in planning and prioritizing long-term facility improvements, preventative maintenance projects, and operational efficiencies. Track facility-related expenditures and assist in managing the maintenance and supplies budget, including obtaining bids and comparing vendor pricing to ensure cost-effective operations. Maintain organized records related to maintenance activities, vendor services, inspections, repairs, and safety compliance documentation. Qualifications Previous experience in facilities management, building maintenance, custodial operations, theater operations, or a related field preferred. Demonstrated ability to perform minor repairs and general maintenance tasks using common hand and power tools. Working knowledge of basic building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general facility operations. Experience coordinating with outside vendors, contractors, and service providers. Familiarity with workplace safety standards, OSHA/Cal/OSHA requirements, HazMat procedures, and general risk management practices preferred. Ability to identify maintenance, safety, and operational issues proactively and develop practical solutions. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and respond to urgent facility needs. Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with production and administrative staff. Reliable, detail-oriented, and responsive with strong follow-through on tasks and projects. Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in a fast-paced theater setting. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Basic computer proficiency, including email and digital recordkeeping. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends as needed to support theater operations and productions.
