Direct Placement | Full-Time Presented by: Alura Workforce Solutions About the Organization This acute care medical center is the largest employer in its region and the community's anchor healthcare institution — serving a population of 50,000 across a vast stretch of southern Colorado. As a full-service hospital, it operates with the resources of a regional health system and the culture of a community that genuinely depends on it. Leadership is visible, impact is immediate, and the work done here is felt across the entire region. Alamosa sits at the heart of one of Colorado's most breathtaking regions — two hours from Pueblo, three from Colorado Springs, four from Denver, and just over two hours from Santa Fe. With access to Great Sand Dunes National Park, world-class skiing, year-round outdoor recreation, and a low cost of living, the San Luis Valley offers a quality of life that urban markets simply can't match. This is a place to put down roots, lead with purpose, and build something that lasts. The Role The Director of Facilities provides executive-level leadership over Plant Operations, Environmental Services, and Grounds — overseeing approximately 45 FTEs and ensuring full regulatory compliance, operational continuity, and a safe environment of care across the entire campus. This is a highly visible, high-impact role reporting directly to senior leadership with broad authority and meaningful responsibility. Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise approximately 45 FTEs across Plant Operations, Maintenance, and Environmental Services Direct maintenance activities on all utility systems including heat, steam, electric power, gas, and medical oxygen to ensure uninterrupted facility and patient care operations Ensure full compliance with NFPA, OSHA, EPA, CMS, and all applicable local building and fire codes Oversee preventative maintenance programs across all systems and equipment per manufacturer recommendations and best standards Manage contractor compliance with all regulatory requirements and hospital policies Inspect equipment and machinery to maintain conformance with operational standards Develop department-specific customer service expectations, training plans, and staff accountability frameworks Serve as cross-departmental liaison — assess operational needs and develop action plans to meet them Apply engineering principles systematically to detect, diagnose, and resolve malfunctioning equipment and systems Carry out Director-level responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws What You Bring Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred Minimum 5 years of personnel management experience Acute care hospital facilities experience required Thorough working knowledge of electricity, electronics, plumbing, carpentry, boiler operation, and HVAC Familiarity with autoclaving, bio-waste handling, life safety codes, construction phasing, and environmental services operations Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles and resolve complex mechanical and systems failures Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills Willingness to relocate to a rural community — this is non-negotiable Why This Role If you've spent your career managing facilities in a busy metro system and you're ready to truly lead, this is the opportunity. The medical center offers a competitive salary ranging from $87,800 to $122,000 annually, a sign-on bonus, and full relocation assistance.
The benefits package is exceptional:
comprehensive medical, dental, and vision with low out-of-pocket costs, generous PTO and sick leave accruing from day one, retirement with up to 5% employer match, free life and disability insurance, a free on-site 24-hour employee health center, education benefits, and a deeply engaged community culture that supports its people. Ski lift ticket discounts, fitness center partnerships, and a nonprofit foundation that gives back to the valley round out a package built for people who want more than a paycheck. This isn't a stepping stone. It's a career-defining leadership role in a place that will remind you why you got into healthcare in the first place.
