Job Description
Director of Facilities Position Overview:
Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens seeks a highly organized, solutions-oriented, and project-driven Director of Facilities to oversee the operation, maintenance, development, and long-term stewardship of the Gardens' 27-acre campus and supporting infrastructure. This leadership role is responsible for managing facility operations, capital improvement initiatives, construction coordination, campus safety, preventative maintenance systems, vendor relationships, and departmental workflow execution. The Director of Facilities plays a critical role in ensuring that the Gardens' physical environment supports exceptional guest experiences, organizational efficiency, and future growth initiatives aligned with the organization's Strategic Plan. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong project management abilities, operational leadership, construction coordination experience, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously within a dynamic nonprofit environment. The Director of Facilities works closely with organizational leadership and collaborates cross-functionally with Facilities, Horticulture, Experience, Development, and Administrative teams to support organizational goals, exhibitions, events, and future campus development projects. This position requires flexibility, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays, as operational and event demands require.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Facilities Operations & Infrastructure Management Oversee daily operations, maintenance, and functionality of all buildings, grounds, infrastructure, sculptures, equipment, and support systems across the campus Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules, operational workflows, and facilities management systems Ensure campus environments remain safe, clean, functional, and guest-ready at all times Monitor and maintain building systems including HVAC, plumbing, irrigation, electrical, mechanical, and utility infrastructure Coordinate facility inspections, repairs, and compliance requirements Maintain accurate departmental records, inventories, maintenance logs, and operational documentation 2. Project Management & Capital Improvements Lead and coordinate facilities-related projects including renovations, construction initiatives, exhibit installations, infrastructure improvements, and long-term campus development efforts Develop project timelines, operational plans, and implementation strategies to ensure successful project execution Coordinate contractors, vendors, consultants, and internal teams throughout project lifecycles Assist leadership with facilities planning associated with organizational growth initiatives and Master Plan implementation Monitor project progress, budgets, deadlines, and resource allocation while proactively identifying operational challenges and solutions Provide hands-on operational leadership to support successful project completion when necessary 3. Vendor, Budget & Resource Management Solicit bids, review proposals, negotiate service agreements, and oversee third-party vendors and contractors Manage departmental purchasing, inventory, and operational resource allocation Assist in preparation and management of departmental operating and project budgets Track facility-related expenditures and support organizational financial accountability efforts Coordinate procurement and delivery of supplies, materials, and operational equipment as needed 4. Team Leadership & Cross-Departmental Collaboration Lead, supervise, and support Facilities and Grounds staff while fostering a collaborative and solutions-focused team culture Coordinate closely with Horticulture, Experience, Development, and Administrative teams to support programs, exhibitions, rentals, and events Participate in departmental and organizational planning meetings Support organizational strategic initiatives through proactive operational planning and execution Maintain strong communication across departments to ensure alignment on priorities, timelines, and operational needs 5. Event, Exhibition & Operational Support Provide operational oversight and logistical coordination for exhibitions, public programs, rentals, and special events Assist with event setup, breakdown, infrastructure preparation, and operational troubleshooting Support installation and deinstallation logistics for exhibitions and large-scale campus projects Ensure facilities and operational systems support positive guest experiences during all organizational activitiesQUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Operations, or related field preferred Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be consideredEXPERIENCE
5+ years of experience in facilities management, operations leadership, construction coordination, project management, or related operational environments Experience managing vendors, contractors, maintenance systems, and capital projects required Experience within nonprofit organizations, hospitality environments, botanical gardens, museums, parks, or public attractions preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Strong project management and organizational skills with ability to manage concurrent priorities Working knowledge of building systems, infrastructure maintenance, and construction coordination Strong leadership, communication, and team management abilities Ability to develop operational systems and improve workflow efficiency Proactive problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions with minimal supervision Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital project tracking systems Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational demands Positive, collaborative, and guest-focused attitude with a strong sense of professionalism and teamwork Working knowledge or appreciation of gardens, outdoor environments, and public spaces preferredSCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Full-time, exempt position Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required Combination of indoor administrative work and outdoor operational support Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work outdoors for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Valid driver's license and reliable transportation requiredCOMPENSATION
