Full-time Summary Description:
Green Acres School seeks an experienced, collaborative Facilities Manager to lead the stewardship, safety, and operational excellence of the school's 15-acre campus, which includes six buildings. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations and partnering closely with the Head of School, the Facilities Manager oversees the maintenance, operation, and long-term planning of the school's buildings and grounds, while supervising a facilities team that includes two full-time day maintenance staff members and three part-time evening staff members. This role requires a facilities leader who combines strategic thinking with practical problem-solving and a willingness to engage directly in day-to-day campus operations. The Facilities Manager ensures that the physical environment supports exceptional teaching and learning while maintaining high standards of safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency. Responsibilities Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and appearance of Green Acres School's 15-acre campus and six buildings, ensuring a safe, clean, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Implement and manage preventive maintenance programs for building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and general campus infrastructure. Manage facilities work orders and coordinate operational support for school events, programs, and community use of campus spaces. Maintain inventory and organization of maintenance equipment, tools, supplies, and replacement parts. Supervise, support, and mentor a facilities team that includes two full-time day maintenance staff members and three part-time evening staff members, fostering a collaborative, responsive, and service-oriented culture. Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors, including custodial, landscaping, security, and specialized service providers. Establish efficient systems and workflows that support the operational needs of a dynamic PK-8 school environment. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards and applicable environmental and building requirements. Oversee construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects, coordinating contractors and timelines to minimize disruption to school operations and student learning. Maintain and regularly update campus emergency response procedures and safety protocols in partnership with school leadership. Serve as the primary point of contact for campus security, fire alarm, and building access systems, ensuring ongoing maintenance and functionality. Promote safe traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and campus accessibility. Evaluate service agreements and recommend operational improvements aligned with long-term campus planning, sustainability goals, and fiscal responsibility. Advance environmentally responsible practices, including energy conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable campus operations. Partner with the Director of Finance and Operations and Head of School to develop and manage the facilities budget and support long-range campus planning. Qualifications and Skills Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered. 3-6+ years of progressive facilities management experience, ideally in a school, educational, or institutional setting. Strong working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance practices. Demonstrated experience supervising staff and managing outside contractors and vendors. Experience managing facilities budgets, preventive maintenance programs, and capital or construction projects. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize competing operational needs and respond calmly and effectively in urgent situations. Proficiency with Microsoft and/or comparable workplace technologies. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, faculty, staff, and external partners. Working Conditions This is a full-time, on-site position requiring a responsive, hands-on approach and visible campus presence. The Facilities Manager must be available for occasional evenings and weekends to support school events and respond to emergencies, including weather-related campus operations such as snow and ice management. Work takes place across office, classroom, and outdoor environments and may involve varying temperatures, moderate noise levels, and exposure to mechanical equipment, tools, or cleaning materials. The role requires the ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand or walk for extended periods, and operate maintenance and snow-removal equipment as needed. 3-6+ years of progressive facilities management experience, ideally in a school, educational, or institutional setting.
