Job Description

Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary Oversees facility operations, vivarium equipment, and animal laboratory processes. Directly supervises 6-15 husbandry personnel. Assists the Facility Manager in the management of the animal care and husbandry program in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of Animal Welfare Act, the Public Health Service, and University policies to assure a quality animal care program that supports the research and teaching at WashU.
Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Plan, direct, supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the Animal Care Staff responsible for the daily care of research animals. Manage up 15 direct reports, including interviewing, on-the-job training, performance management and evaluation, career development discussions and oversight of employee work schedules and attendance. Ensure that the established SOPs are properly executed and department policies are followed. Schedule daily activities and distribute workload to staff. Train the husbandry staff on SOPs and in daily duties. Accountable for monitoring and managing employee work performance and associated files. Provide PI and lab staff facility walk through and barrier training. Supervisor may assist with technical procedures including animal identification, breeding and euthanasia. Conduct or oversee census and quality assurance activities in the facility. Perform additional duties as directed by the facility manager or the department.
