Job Description

This position supervises year-round athletic programs and facilities, including baseball, softball, basketball, hockey, and the Community Center. Responsibilities include opening, monitoring, and securing facilities; providing customer service and program information to participants and the public; enforcing rules; documenting incidents; operating game clocks and scorebooks; setting up and breaking down equipment; and maintaining clean, safe work areas. The role supports youth and adult sports leagues, special events, and general facility oversight. Duties may vary by program. A flexible schedule is required, with primary work hours during evenings and weekends. Provide information to the public regarding programs and activities Inspect facility, set-up and break-down equipment; report problems to the Recreation Superintendent Close and secure facility Operate game clock and keep scorebook Maintains enthusiasm and tact in all contact with the public, program participants, and other staff Maintain clean work and play areas Enforce program rules; document incidents if needed Carries out job duties in a safe manner in accordance with all VOP and department policies Specific duties may vary depending on program discipline Other related duties as assigned Must be able to report to work promptly and when scheduled Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, staff, peers and management Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing Knowledge of department policies and procedures Knowledge of the specific athletic program Ability to observe and work with large groups of participants Ability to follow directions; enforce rules Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem solve Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints Safety This position requires enforcing and following all Village of Pinehurst and OSHA safety regulations. Physical Requirements Effective visual perception is needed for making observations including distinguishing colors, performing visual and physical inspections of work site. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, infectious and/or contagious diseases, and inclement weather. Work is typically performed while walking, standing, running, bending, crouching, or stooping. Employee will occasionally lift light and heavy objects. Must be able to perform moderate work exerting up to 25 lbs. of force, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. 18 years of age at the time of employment. An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job. Requires previous experience, demonstrated ability and/or aptitude, and orientation toward supervising groups of participants in the specific field of activity. Possession of a valid driver's license.
