Job Description
Job Summary The Facilities Manager is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, safety, and functionality of Española Humane's physical facilities, including the City of Española-owned animal shelter and the Española Humane Animal Clinic located on Ohkay Owingeh land. This role ensures that all buildings, grounds, and systems are maintained in a safe, humane, and operationally efficient manner that supports animal welfare, staff effectiveness, and public access. The Facilities Manager works in close coordination with organizational leadership and external partners and manages the shelter facility in accordance with Española Humane policies while complying with requirements and expectations set by the City of Española as the facility owner. This is a hands-on, in-person role with supervisory responsibility for one direct report. Duties Facilities Operations & Maintenance Oversee routine and preventive maintenance for all buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems at both the animal shelter and animal clinic. City-Owned Facility Coordination Manage the animal shelter facility in alignment with Española Humane policies and procedures while complying with the City of Española's requirements as the building owner. Serve as a primary point of contact with City of Española representatives regarding facility-related matters, inspections, maintenance coordination, and capital improvements. Ensure proper documentation and communication related to city-owned assets and responsibilities. Supervision & Team Leadership Supervise, train, and support one direct report, providing clear expectations, feedback, and performance oversight. Assign and prioritize daily work orders and projects to ensure timely completion. Foster a collaborative, safety-focused, and solution-oriented work environment. Vendor & Contractor Management Coordinate and oversee outside vendors, contractors, and service providers, including janitorial, landscaping, pest control, and specialized repair services. Obtain quotes, schedule services, and ensure work is completed to standard and within budget. Monitor vendor compliance with safety and organizational requirements. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA standards and animal care requirements. Conduct routine safety inspections and proactively address hazards. Support emergency preparedness and response, including after-hours or on-call needs related to weather events, facility failures, or animal welfare emergencies Planning & Administration Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, warranties, and service contracts. Assist with facilities-related budgeting, planning, and capital improvement projects. Participate in organizational planning to support future facility needs and growth. This position performs in accordance with the organization's expectations for animal care, teamwork, and interpersonal relations, and actively contributes to improving service delivery, communication, and consistency.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position oversees the following positions: Facilities Technician Perform and/or coordinate repairs related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, fencing, kennels, cages, and general infrastructure. Ensure facilities remain clean, safe, secure, and fully operational for animals, staff, volunteers, and the public. Maintain shelter and clinic environments that meet animal welfare, biosecurity, and sanitation standards.REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 3-5 years of facilities maintenance or facilities management experience, preferably in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, healthcare, or municipal environment. Demonstrated experience with building systems, general repairs, and preventive maintenance. Supervisory or lead experience managing staff or contractors. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and respond effectively to urgent facility needs Valid driver's license and ability to travel between sites as needed.Pay:
