POSITION PURPOSE
The Facility Sanitation Associate supports facility cleanliness, sanitation, food safety, employee safety, and regulatory compliance by performing assigned housekeeping and sanitation duties throughout the distribution center. This role helps ensure products delivered to retail stores are handled in a clean, safe, and compliant environment.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Perform general sanitation duties including sweeping, mopping, pressure washing, floor maintenance, garbage and recycling collection, and all other food safety and sanitation tasks as assigned. Monitor food safety and sanitation conditions throughout the facility and report observations to supervision that require attention and are beyond the scope of assigned tasks. Respond promptly when spills occur. Remove damaged products, packaging, and contaminants from warehouse selection and storage locations and place in designated areas. Clean and sanitize restrooms and break rooms, including floors, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces. Ensure supplies are consistently stocked and dispensers are in good working order. Maintain outdoor areas, keeping them free from debris, spills and safety hazards. Follow established sanitation procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and follow safety labeling requirements. Follow Personal Protective Equipment requirements as designated by company policy. Follow all safety policies and procedures. Learn and understand the requirements for handling Hazardous Materials. Observe surroundings to identify deficiencies in food safety practices, sanitation, pest activity or equipment. Report or correct identified deficiencies following established procedures. Complete all tasks properly, efficiently and effectively as outlined in training and written policies. Perform other duties as assigned by forepersons, supervisors or the Food Safety and Sanitation Manager. Behave in a professional manner and treat co-workers, customers and contractors with courtesy, dignity and respect. Promote and work to maintain an environment that adheres to the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and personal safety. Comply with Company food safety programs, GMP's, sanitation standards, OSHA/safety policies, SDS and chemical handling requirements.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices in a warehouse or industrial environment. Experience with the proper use, handling and emergency procedures related to chemicals and hazardous materials. Must be able to read, understand, and follow training, policy and procedural documents, and safety information, such as Safety Data Sheet information. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. Demonstrate ability to respond appropriately to food safety and sanitation issues following established policies, procedures and practices. Possess good communication skills (verbal and written). Must possess and utilize observation and assessment skills; report food safety, personal safety, or sanitation concerns to supervision when necessary to avoid regulatory or food safety risk, property damage and employee injuries. Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and executing assigned tasks properly and efficiently. Must maintain regular and predictable attendance and be available to work assigned shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required by operational needs. Ability to read and understand written instructions related to chemical use, Personal Protective Equipment, and training materials related to the use of tools and equipment necessary to complete assigned work.
SKILLS, PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull and handle cleaning equipment and materials (typically up to 50 lbs., occasionally up to 70-100 lbs.). Work is performed in a warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures (ambient to minus 10°F). Some work is performed outdoors during all seasons; may be exposed to seasonal high and low temperatures. Uses sanitation carts and tools while maintaining awareness of surroundings to avoid hazards. Operates pallet jacks, floor scrubbers, pressure washers, compactors or other powered equipment as trained and authorized. Manual dexterity, coordination, and balance are required to facilitate safe and effective work in various environments. May work at heights; must understand and adhere to fall protection policies and safety procedures. Ability to frequently bend, stoop, twist, and perform repetitive motions. Mental alertness and situational awareness are required to recognize hazards, equipment movement, and environmental changes. Exposure to moisture, cleaning chemicals, hazardous materials and heavy equipment. Personal Protective Equipment is provided and required when necessary to prevent unintended exposure or contact. Noise levels are consistent with normal warehouse operations; hearing protection may be required in certain situations. May use a two-way radio.
