Facility Assistant - Sanitation & General MaintenanceDepartment Operations / Facilities Reports To Warehouse or Facilities Manager Position Summary The Facility Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and inspection-ready food warehouse environment with a strong focus on sanitation, general facility upkeep, and compliance with AIB (American Institute of Baking) food safety standards. This position supports daily cleaning operations, performs minor maintenance tasks, assists with warehouse operations, and helps ensure the facility remains organized, functional, and compliant with safety regulations. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, physically capable of performing repetitive cleaning and maintenance tasks, and committed to maintaining high food safety and facility standards in a warehouse environment. Key ResponsibilitiesSanitation & Cleaning Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of warehouse floors, storage areas, docks, breakrooms, restrooms, and office spaces. Sweep, mop, scrub, and sanitize floors and surfaces according to food safety standards. Remove trash, cardboard, and warehouse debris throughout the facility. Clean spills immediately to maintain a safe work environment. Sanitize high-touch surfaces and shared equipment regularly. Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, pressure washers, and pallet jacks safely. AIB & Food Safety Compliance Maintain cleanliness standards required for AIB inspections and food warehouse operations. Follow all sanitation schedules, SOPs, and food safety procedures. Assist with pest prevention measures by keeping areas clean and free of debris. Report sanitation, safety, or maintenance concerns promptly. Support warehouse readiness for audits and inspections. Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety standards, and food handling requirements. General Maintenance Perform minor facility maintenance and repair tasks as assigned. Replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles, air filters, and other basic building components. Assist with preventative maintenance activities throughout the facility. Help maintain exterior cleanliness including sidewalks, entrances, and parking areas. Identify and report maintenance issues requiring outside repair or service. Assist with setup and movement of warehouse equipment, furniture, and supplies. Maintain organization of maintenance tools, janitorial equipment, and storage areas. Warehouse Support Assist with organizing storage areas and maintaining orderly workspaces. Help restock cleaning and sanitation supplies as needed. Assist with loading and unloading food product deliveries safely and efficiently. Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and reach trucks in accordance with company safety procedures and training requirements. Move, stage, and organize palletized inventory within warehouse storage areas. Support warehouse staff with light operational tasks when assigned. Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Previous janitorial, sanitation, warehouse cleaning, or maintenance experience preferred. Experience operating forklifts or reach trucks preferred. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards is a plus. Basic knowledge of facility maintenance and hand tools preferred. Ability to work independently and follow cleaning and maintenance schedules. Strong attention to detail and reliability. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and lift throughout the shift. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to work at occasional heights of up to 30 feet using ladders, lifts, or warehouse equipment while following all safety procedures. Comfortable working in warehouse environments with varying temperatures. Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals, tools, maintenance equipment, forklifts, and reach trucks.
