00333 The Public Safety Facilities Cleaning Specialist position is responsible for performing a full range of building custodial duties related to the care, maintenance and cleaning of assigned Police buildings and facilities, under the Department of Public Safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, strip and polish floors including linoleum, hardwood and concrete floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; clean and maintain stairways, Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, doors, mirrors and walls including window blinds and shutters; clean and polish metal fixtures. Clean desks, tables and countertops; empty, clean and sanitize waste receptables; dispose of recyclable and bio-hazardous material appropriately; clean kitchen area including sweep and mop floors, wipe counter tops, tables and appliances; fill and run dishwasher. Clean and disinfect drinking fountains and restrooms; replenish and maintain restroom supplies including soap dispensers, tissue and towels. Prepare and set-up meeting rooms; move and arrange furniture and equipment as necessary; vacuum, dust and clean all surfaces as needed. Participate in a variety of light maintenance tasks including painting walls; replace light bulbs; clean condensation drain and assemble filing cabinets. Clean around outside of building including sweeping steps and sidewalks. Perform light landscaping outside of building. Order and pickup supplies as needed. Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment. Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Methods and techniques of general building maintenance. Operational characteristics of custodial equipment and tools. Minor preventative maintenance. Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Ability to:
Operate a variety of custodial tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner. Perform any/all activities necessary or requested to maintain Police facilities in a clean and orderly manner. Perform various cleaning and sanitizing activities. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Experience and Education:
 Any combination equivalent to the level of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities will qualify.
Experience:
One-year previous work experience performing general building maintenance desired.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Licenses/Certifications:
Possession of a valid Class "C" or greater Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
The essential job duties of this position are performed indoors. The duties of this position require that the incumbent be willing to work an alternative work schedule to include evenings and night shifts. Additionally, incumbents assigned to this position must be physically capable of performing all essential job duties which include, standing and sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment, including floor machines (buffers, vacuums, etc.) and other tools. The incumbent is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Due to the requirement for this position to have access to sensitive information, a criminal history background, polygraph and fingerprint check will be conducted through the FBI. Candidates must not have any Class B Misdemeanor convictions (or higher) within the previous five (5) years. Additionally, candidates will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical assessment to determine Fitness for Duty.
