Job Description
The Director of Facilities is responsible for the facilities at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Balancing hands-on maintenance and upkeep with administrative and managerial duties, this job provides direct support for 1) Windsor Court Apartments, 2) Bulldog Road Production Facility, and 3) various other housing and storage locations. The facilities director also serves as a liaison with SUU facilities, providing cooperative communication for managing the USF buildings at the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts at Southern Utah University.
Date of first consideration:
04/29/2026. Oversee safety, renovations, maintenance, snow removal, and repairs for all Festival-managed properties either directly or through supervision or outsourcing (within available budgets). Coordinate custodial and operational needs with SUU Facilities. Respond to urgent issues evenings/weekends to maintain maximum uptime and fullADA/OSHA
compliance. Forecast and execute an annual facilities and operations budget. Coordinate with vendors and relevant SUU and USF staff when bids relating to USF facilities are conducted. Conduct these and other purchasing tasks in accordance with SUU purchasing and other policies. Direct long-term strategy, daily operations, and reporting for USF's vehicle fleet and grounds. Conduct vehicle inspections, schedule maintenance, ensureDOT/FMCSA
compliance, track fuel/assignments, and manage acquisition/disposal. Install, clean, and remove ground furniture, sun shades, banners, and signage. Prepare/submit annual UDOT street-closure permits for Engelstad Theatre areas. Hire, train, and supervise seasonal barricade staff to execute daily closures during 50+ evening performances, achieving zero safety incidents. Personally direct planning, scheduling, and execution of the Beverley Center holiday light installation/removal with a seasonal team, ensuring on-time, zero-disruption delivery. Partner with SUU Lock Shop and Festival Stage Manager to manage access for seasonal company members, in accordance with SUU policy. Serve as primary liaison between USF and SUU to align facility priorities with university goals. Lead cross-functional planning, deliver updates, and resolve issues. Interface with SUU Risk Management to enforce and support OSHA, Workers Compensation, fire safety, and PCI-DSS standards via inspections, training, drills, and incident reporting. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's in Business, Facilities Management, or Bachelor's degree and relevant work experience of five (5) years. Demonstrated experience managing significant budgets and fiscal responsibility. Proven supervisory experience leading teams across multiple functions. Strong knowledge in federal and state safety, health, and environmental regulations. Valid driver's license with ability to operate manual transmission vehicles preferred. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds on an irregular basis. Auditory, visual, and physical skills to perform job duties. Advanced proficiency in MS Office/Google Suite. Availability for evenings, weekends, and on-call response. Five (5) years of progressive supervisory and leadership experience. Proven track record of successfully leading employees across multiple functional areas. Experience managing complex regulatory compliance programs. Preferred Qualifications Master's in Business Administration, Operations Management or closely related field. 5+ years in performing arts/higher ed facilities. OSHA 30+ certification; experience with e-commerce integrations (e.g., Stripe PCI). This position is contingent on funding.
