Job Description
Knowledge of and Skills in:
Principles, practices, and techniques of planning and directing comprehensive City Parks programs Principles and practices of budgeting, record keeping, report writing, and contract negotiation Methods for budget preparation, justification, presentation, and management Methods of financial policy development and assessment Hazards, safety regulations, and practices associated with recreation programs and facilities Knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in facilities and park operations maintenance and repairs Knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repair of parks, trails, and urban forests Knowledge of functions of building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and security Knowledge of proper and safe techniques of building maintenance Use of independent judgment and effective decision making in the application of a wide variety of laws, rules, policies and procedures and in effective problem solving Supervisory principles and methods, including goal setting, budget preparation and administration and employee supervision Strategic and tactical planning (both long and short term) Principles and practices of project management Principles and techniques or marketing and public relations Supervision, organization, and coordination Abilities to: Demonstrate highly effective leadership skills by supporting the goals and objectives of the organization; recognizing, defining, and moving issues forward in a collaborative manner; developing and/or improving processes, policies and procedures to meet organizational goals Anticipate trends and community needs; organize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate problems and provide practical, cost-effective solutions Implement new ideas Direct others in promoting desired behaviors inside and outside the organization Analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine a proper course of action; use appropriate independent judgment to make decisions of a technical, management and/or administrative nature in support of division/department/City goals Speak professionally and at the highest level of effectiveness with elected officials, representatives of public and private organizations, and the general public Interact with consultants, developers, general public, officials, and other municipalities Lead, train, evaluate and motivate staff Prioritize and oversee the work of the team to ensure both the customer's needs and deadlines are met Education and Experience Five years of progressively responsible experience in recreation management, park operations, facilities management, or closely related field, Two years supervisory/managerial experience, with demonstrated progressively responsible leadership experience. High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor's degree in recreation management, public administration, park administration, facilities management or related field preferred; Project Management experience preferred. If assigned to facilities, property management with leases or real estate transaction experience preferred. Public Sector experience preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities Licenses and Certificates Valid WA State Driver's license required.
