Job Description

Overview We are looking for an experienced Steel Beam Forklift Operator to support a busy structural steel fabrication shop. This is not a standard warehouse forklift position. This role involves moving heavy steel beams, plate, HSS, angle, and fabricated assemblies in an active fabrication environment where safety, awareness, and precision are critical. Heavy forklift operator certification is required for this role.
Pay:
$23 - $27/hr Day shift, M-F Responsibilities Operate sit-down forklifts and telehandlers in the shop and yard Move, stage, and load structural steel materials including beams, plate, HSS, angle, and fabricated assemblies Safely handle oversized and uneven loads in active production areas Load and unload flatbed trucks Read material tags, cut lists, and basic shop drawings Support fabricators, fitters, and welders by staging materials efficiently Keep the shop and yard organized to support production flow Complete pre-shift equipment inspections Report maintenance or safety concerns immediately Follow all PPE and safety requirements Maintain awareness around overhead cranes, equipment, and active crews Qualifications 3-5+ years of forklift experience in steel fabrication, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments Experience handling steel beams and oversized structural materials Heavy forklift operator certification required Strong understanding of load balance, weight distribution, and safe material handling Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment Reliable and team-oriented mindset Telehandler or rough terrain forklift experience preferred Ability to read basic shop drawings and material lists preferred OSHA 10 is a plus Work Environment Structural steel fabrication shop and outdoor yard Exposure to heavy equipment, overhead crane activity, industrial noise, and changing weather Must be able to stand and operate equipment for extended periods Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted PPE required in designated work areas Interested in learning more?
