Summary:
Drives gasoline or diesel powered industrial truck equipped with forklift blades used to lift, stack, or tier equipment and materials throughout the shipyard. Occasionally lift personnel in basket as well. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
Qualification Standards:
Requires previous experience or training. Must be able to follow and understand written (in English) and visual instructions. Good driving skills needed. Must be able to operate hand and foot controls. Ability to work any shift required. Must be able to work on-board ship while under construction. Ability to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings are required. Must be able to pass written and hands-on tests instruction to receive required operator's license. Ability to read and understand material shipping documents is required.
Essential Job Tasks:
Uses forklift to push, pull, lift, stack or tier merchandise, equipment, or bulk materials in warehouse, shipyard, or on-board ship. Drives truck and controls movement of lifting apparatus. Positions forms or lifting platform under loaded pallets, skids, or boxes. Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lift forks or lifting platform. Inspects forklift daily for mechanical and fluid deficiencies.
Materials, Tools Equipment, Work Aids:
Works with a wide variety of parts, machinery, supplies, assemblies and components which are loaded, moved and unloaded. Uses slings and chains as needed and operates forklift. Uses radio to contact dispatch or supervision.
Physical/Mental Involvement:
Repetitive or prolonged sitting, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, reclining and finger dexterity. May lift between 50 and 60 pounds. Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.
Environmental Factors:

SHIPYARD CAPABILITIES
NASSCO's shipyard facilities are capable of building commercial cargo ships and tankers and Navy auxiliary ships up to 1,000 feet in length and servicing or repairing any vessel sailing on the West Coast of the United States. Our main shipyard is located on San Diego Bay, which has a channel depth of 35 feet. To reach NASSCO, ships pass under the Coronado Bridge, which has a vertical clearance of 195 feet. The shipyard encompasses 86 acres of land and 47 acres of water and offers: 2 inclined building ways, 950-feet long and 108-feet wide 8 fully serviced berths ranging from 600 to 1,000 feet A 1,000-foot long, 174-foot wide graving dock with a lift capacity of 30,000 long tons 9 whirley/portal cranes with individual lift capacities up to 300 tons and multi-crane lifts up to 620 tons An 820-foot long, 136-foot wide NASVEA certified floating drydock with a lift capacity of 35,000 long tons 6 production workshops and 10 assembly areas 2 blast cells and 5 paint cells for indoor prep and coating of hull blocks (52'x52'x30')

The ideal candidate will be skilled in developing and checking system layouts, equipment layouts, pipe fabrication details, and pipe supports within a 3D model using Aveva Marine and/or E3D . Strong knowledge of piping systems, industry codes and design standards is required, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary design team environment on complex projects.

Bachelor's Degree, and/or associate's degree in CAD. Four (4) years of shipbuilding experience can substitute for education. The essential functions of this role require work in both an office and industrial setting. The role requires prolonged periods of working in a stationary position, operating a computer, computer programs, and standard office equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. The role also requires prolonged periods of working in indoor and outdoor industrial settings. PAY SCALE
$94,100- $154,700 This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
