Reach Truck Operator Job Description This role involves operating a stand-up reach truck forklift in a cold storage warehouse to complete putaways, pick orders, and build shipments accurately and safely. You will work with RF scanners and a computer system to manage inventory, stage and wrap orders, and support efficient loading and unloading of trucks in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Operate a stand-up reach truck forklift to perform putaways and pick orders throughout the warehouse. Work in a cold storage environment maintained at approximately 30 degrees while following all safety procedures. Use RF scanners to locate, pick, and verify inventory and orders. Break down pallets and move skids to designated areas for storage, staging, or shipping. Use the computer system to print orders, complete order processing, and build orders accurately. Stage, wrap, and prepare orders for shipment, including getting off the forklift as needed for manual tasks. Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently using the reach truck and other material handling equipment. Maintain accurate inventory handling by following established processes for picking, putaway, and order building. Support warehouse shipping and receiving activities as required. Follow all warehouse safety, equipment, and cold storage guidelines during every shift. Essential Skills 1-2 years of recent experience operating a stand-up reach truck forklift in a warehouse or similar environment. Proven experience performing putaways and picking orders using a reach truck. Experience loading and unloading trucks using forklifts or reach trucks. Ability to work comfortably and consistently in a cold storage environment at approximately 30 degrees. Hands-on experience with RF scanners for inventory and order picking. Ability to use a computer system to print orders, complete orders, and build shipments. Strong material handling skills, including moving skids, breaking down pallets, and staging orders. Attention to detail to ensure accurate order picking, inventory handling, and documentation. Ability to safely operate stand-up forklifts, reach lifts, and other warehouse equipment. Reliable attendance and ability to work the assigned second-shift schedule: Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with Tuesday and Saturday off. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bilingual communication skills are a plus. Experience in warehouse shipping and receiving is an advantage. Previous work in cold storage or refrigerated warehouse environments is beneficial. Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume distribution or warehouse setting. Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with other warehouse staff. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a cold storage warehouse with inventory bays used for storing products at approximately 30 degrees. You will work on second shift with a schedule of Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with Tuesdays and Saturdays off. The role requires frequent operation of stand-up reach trucks and other forklifts, as well as regular use of RF scanners and computer systems. You will regularly get on and off the forklift to stage, wrap, and build orders, break down pallets, and move skids. The facility provides cold-weather gear such as jackets, gloves, bibs, and suits, and you may wear your own hoodies, jackets, hats, and similar attire to stay comfortable while working in the cold environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lyons, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
