Job Description

  • Job Title:
    Machine Saw Operator
  • Job Description
  • The Machine Saw Operator sets up and operates industrial saws to cut metal materials to precise customer specifications in a fast-paced warehouse and production environment.
This role combines hands-on machine operation with accurate inventory control, measurement, and documentation. You ensure materials are processed safely, efficiently, and according to work orders, while maintaining a clean and organized work area and supporting quality and lean initiatives across the facility.
  • Responsibilities
  • + Apply metal materials to customer orders and accurately process material according to work order specifications.
+ Pull, inspect, and verify product before processing to ensure correct material and dimensions. + Properly and safely set up saws and related equipment according to set-up notes and work order specifications. + Operate saws and other processing equipment to cut material to required sizes and tolerances. + Verify that processed product meets set-up note specifications and written work instructions, recording measurements according to the sampling plan. + Operate cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment to move and stage materials safely. + Perform inventory control on each work order, including tracking material usage and scrap using basic math skills. + Read and interpret blueprints and rulers to run saws to the required specifications. + Properly enter and delete material identification tags following written instructions. + Operate weighing scales and accurately record inspection measurements. + Identify, record, and segregate scrap and non-conforming material in accordance with quality procedures. + Perform equipment preventive maintenance to keep machines in safe and reliable operating condition. + Maintain issued measurement equipment in proper working condition and report any issues promptly. + Assist in packaging material according to written work instructions and work orders. + Maintain the processing area in a clean, safe, and orderly manner, including general clean-up duties. + Communicate with the appropriate sales or internal contacts regarding changes or clarifications to orders. + Provide feedback to supervision regarding machine efficiency, product quality, and potential improvements. + Complete all required information entry accurately and in a timely manner. + Train other team members on equipment operation and procedures when required. + Assist in activities related to lean initiatives and quality improvement efforts. + Perform all job responsibilities in a manner that does not put yourself or others in an unsafe situation.
  • Essential Skills
  • + At least 2 years of saw operation experience, preferably in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
+ Minimum of 2+ years of saw operation working around metals such as sheet metal and aluminum. + Ability to set up and operate industrial saws to cut materials to precise specifications. + Ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine cutting requirements. + Proficiency in using a ruler and tape measure to verify dimensions and tolerances. + Ability to perform basic math skills for inventory tracking, measurements, and material calculations. + Experience with inventory control on each work order, including tracking material usage and scrap. + Ability to read and write to follow work instructions and complete documentation accurately. + Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs as part of daily duties. + Experience operating forklifts and other material handling equipment. + Experience operating cranes and related material handling equipment. + High school diploma or GED. + Ability to maintain a safe work environment and follow safety procedures at all times.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + Certification in a material handler position or willingness to obtain certification as required.
+ Previous warehouse experience, especially in the metals industry. + 3+ years of warehouse experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment is preferred. + Experience with bandsaws, waterjet equipment, or similar industrial saws. + Experience with machine operation and machine set-up in an industrial environment. + Experience with related equipment such as press brakes, punch presses, drill presses, and CNC or other industrial machinery. + Ability to use handheld measuring tools and maintain them in good working condition. + Computer literacy for basic data entry and inventory or production recording. + Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where materials are cut to meet customer requirements on tight timelines. + Strong attention to detail and quality, with the ability to identify non-conforming materials. + Willingness to support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement activities.

  • Work Environment
  • This role is based in a warehouse and production environment operating across multiple shifts, typically including 1st shift from 6:00 a.
m. to 2:00 p.m., 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and 3rd shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with some departments following standard 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. hours. You work around metal materials such as sheet metal and aluminum, using industrial saws, cranes, forklifts, weighing scales, and various measuring tools. The facility focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly processing area, with an emphasis on proper housekeeping and equipment upkeep. The pace is fast, driven by customer-specific cutting requirements, and you collaborate closely with production, warehouse, and support teams in a hands-on industrial setting.

  • This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.
  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $21.20 - $22.20/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
