Warehouse Shipping and Material Handling Operator Job Description This role focuses on picking, packing, and shipping domestic and international orders within a lean manufacturing warehouse environment. You will accurately select and package inventory, coordinate shipments using shipping software, and maintain precise records while working closely with a tight-knit shipping team and cross-functional departments. The position requires strong computer skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work on your feet at a brisk pace throughout the shift. Responsibilities Execute all warehouse and shipping duties in a safe and compliant manner at all times. Perform picking and packing of orders, ensuring accurate product selection and quantity for each shipment. Verify products and packaging details before shipment to maintain high accuracy and quality standards. Prepare and ship domestic and international orders by following established contracted shipping lanes or obtaining spot quotes when shipping lanes do not exist. Use shipping software to create and process shipping labels, bills of lading, and related documentation. Enter shipment tracking information into the system and proactively trace shipments when required. Call freight forwarders and common carriers to schedule pickups and follow up to confirm on-time collection and delivery. Collaborate closely with the shipping team, manufacturing, quality, management, and sales to coordinate order flow and resolve shipping issues. Accurately count inventory and support inventory control activities as needed. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area in alignment with lean manufacturing and kanban practices. Work at a consistently brisk pace in a role that requires standing and walking for the entire shift. Follow ESD (electrostatic discharge) protocols and any other site-specific handling procedures. Perform additional tasks and support other duties within the shipping team as needed. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with picking and packing in a warehouse or distribution environment. Practical warehouse experience, including working in shipping, receiving, or stockroom operations. Strong computer competency, including the ability to use shipping software and warehouse systems. Ability to accurately count inventory and maintain precise records. Capability to work at a brisk pace in a role that requires 100% standing and walking. Strong communication and organization skills to coordinate with internal teams and external carriers. Ability to follow detailed shipping instructions for domestic and international orders. Comfort working with freight forwarders and common carriers to schedule and track shipments. Ability to perform basic math and pass a material handler test that includes counting, math, and inventory questions. Proficiency in English to read instructions, complete documentation, and communicate with team members. Strong sense of urgency to meet shipping deadlines and customer expectations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with shipping and receiving processes, including preparation of bills of lading (BOL) and working with bills of materials (BOM). Familiarity with international shipping requirements and documentation. Experience using RF (radio frequency) scanners for inventory and order picking. Ability to safely operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts, where applicable. Comfort working in a lean manufacturing, kanban, and production cell environment. Ability to adapt to a close, tight-knit team environment and demonstrate a flexible, cooperative personality. Wearing steel-toed boots as part of required personal protective equipment. Work Environment The role is based in a warehouse within a lean manufacturing setting that uses kanban and production cell principles to manage workflow. You will work on the first shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The position is entirely on your feet, requiring continuous standing and walking at a brisk pace throughout the day. The environment follows ESD (electrostatic discharge) protocols, so careful handling of materials is important. You will use computers, shipping software, and warehouse tools such as RF scanners and pallet jacks, and may work around forklifts and other material handling equipment. Steel-toed boots are part of the required attire, and you will be part of a close, collaborative shipping team that values flexibility and teamwork. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tualatin, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
