  • Full-time Job Overview The Potomac Trust is a long-horizon philanthropic trust mobilizing capital at scale for underserved communities across the Washington metropolitan region.
We are seeking an experienced Director of Development to serve as our primary front-line fundraiser to advance a $30 million Living Legacy Campaign, an annual operating fund, and a $15 million permanent endowment. This is a relationship-based, results-oriented role for a seasoned professional who closes major gifts, builds trust with high-net-worth individuals, and thrives in a mission-driven environment. Maryland/DMV-based candidates strongly preferred. Duties Manage a personal portfolio of 75-100 major donors and prospects giving $25,000 and above across three giving tracks: the Living Legacy Campaign, annual operating fund, and permanent endowment Cultivate and close restricted campaign gifts, including Founding Investments of $1 million and above, in partnership with the Chief Advancement Officer Carry a dedicated portfolio of annual operating fund donors, pursuing unrestricted gifts that sustain organizational infrastructure Support identification and cultivation of permanent endowment donors Ensure timely, meaningful stewardship of all major donors, including acknowledgments, impact updates, and personalized follow-up Research and draft foundation and corporate grant proposals; maintain grants calendar Support board members with call sheets, talking points, and cultivation event materials Maintain accurate records in the CRM, documenting all moves management activity and next steps Skills Major gifts fundraising with a proven track record of closing gifts of $25,000 or more Capital campaign experience Multi-track donor portfolio management (campaign, annual fund, endowment) Donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship Knowledge of the Montgomery County / greater DMV philanthropic landscape Excellent written and verbal communication; grant and proposal writing Proficiency with donor CRM software (Bloomerang, Salesforce, or equivalent) High emotional intelligence and discretion with high-net-worth individuals Board engagement support
