Pope Francis Center (PFC) provides holistic, transformational solutions to people experiencing homelessness. We envision a Detroit without homelessness, where every person has the resources for sustained stability. To that end, we operate a drop-in Day Center to meet basic needs for those seeking support and the Bridge Housing Campus, a transitional housing facility.
Position Overview :
The Manager of Individual Philanthropy reports to the Director of Philanthropy and is responsible for building relationships with and securing funds from individual donors to support the mission, vision and values of Pope Francis Center (PFC). He/she practices relationship-based philanthropy and plays an integral part in meeting and exceeding budget goals to ensure PFC's success and sustainability through managing a portfolio of mid-level donors, PFC's monthly giving program and direct mail program.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of mid-level individual donors giving $1,000 - $5,000 annually.
- Grow current base of mid-level donors through implementing a strategic cycle of personalized touchpoints throughout the year, from solicitation to acknowledgement in conjunction with the direct mail program.
- Make gratitude calls to all donors giving $1,000 or less within 1 week of receipt of gift.
- Manage monthly giving program; develop and implement creative engagement, gratitude, growth, and upgrade strategies for monthly donors.
- Manage Direct Mail program consisting of 3-4 mailed appeals and 2 gratitude/stewardship pieces annually. Starting from content gathering and copy writing in collaboration with philanthropy and marketing teams, data requests and review, and project management of external vendors and internal contributors.
- Engage with individual donors and donor prospects at fundraising events, community events, one-on-one visits
- Invite donors to attend a tour of PFC and/or Bridge Housing Campus, lead tours regularly
- Work with Marketing team on social media strategies for mid level donors and direct mail campaigns
- Work with Director of Philanthropy on moves management, identifying mid-level donors as major gift prospects, working to meet donors needs while also increasing support to PFC
- Support Director of Philanthropy with major donor activities, major gift prospecting, legacy giving, capital campaign, proposal development as needed
- Invite individual donors to attend the Building Bridges Gala, and provide additional event support before, during and after the event
- Perform other philanthropy team activities as required by management
Performance Metrics:
- Achieving overall agreed-upon revenue goal
- Retention and upgrading of donors, including cultivation of major gift prospects
- Number of High value contacts made annually
- Number of meetings and/or gift solicitations annually
- Deadlines met or exceeded

- 3 - 5 years experience managing individual philanthropy with demonstrated success in gift solicitation and donor retention
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and monitor and meet revenue goals
- Excellent interpersonal and listening skills
- Highly organized and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
- Positive attitude and desire to build and contribute to a healthy team dynamic
- Experience with donor databases; Raiser's Edge experience preferred
Additional Information:
This is a full-time position with an office location at PFC's Bridge Housing Campus at 2915 W Hancock St, Detroit. The working hours are between 9am - 5pm, with some evening or morning hours required on occasion. The Manager of Individual Philanthropy will primarily work in the office, work at the Center and Campus leading tours, and in the community while meeting with donors. Hybrid-remote work and flexible schedules can be discussed. Salary for the Manager of Individual Philanthropy position is $80,000 - $90,000 based on relevant experience, education, and skills.
