Job Description

Job Overview The Prevention Specialist performs tasks as assigned, including, but not limited to, disseminating information on substance use prevention through media plan campaign development; providing prevention education programming and program implementation; implement environmental strategies including local policy work; utilizing cultural activities in preventing substance use; coordinating with local coalition and community members in prevention; providing technical assistance to agencies that work with high risk populations that are more likely to use substances, and other tasks as required through specific grants. Responsible for reporting all prevention data specific to prevention plans and performs other administrative duties as required. Responsible to report other grant-specific data per individual grant specifications. Duties 1. Develop and conduct educational presentations on alcohol and other drug abuse prevention to community and youth groups. 2. Provide training and presentations to community groups, agencies and youth on substance abuse prevention topics. 3. Provide technical assistance and participate in local coalitions with common goals around substance abuse prevention. 4. Facilitate and/or provide regional media literacy and merchant education training while collecting data on attendance records. 5. Assist with development of a Regional Media Plan by providing technical assistance and implementation in coordination with other local prevention coalitions/organizations. 6. Consult, support and work with local prevention staff in planning and implementation of environmental prevention strategies. 7. Record and report prevention data as required by the grant. 8. Maintain all program records in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with programmatic and state requirements. 9. Attend and participate in all required meetings as required. 10. Attend and participate in all grant-required prevention training. 11. Perform related work as required by local program manager and the sub-region director. 12. Other duties as assigned.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Possess a High School Diploma or GED, and/or Associate degree in health science, community health, communication, public relations, human services, or a related field from an accredited college and/or have one (1) year of experience in substance misuse/abuse prevention services, a bachelor's degree is preferred. A.
Knowledge:
Person must have knowledge of risk and protective theory of prevention, strategic prevention framework (SPF), components of Evidence-based interventions, youth development and asset-building strategies and approaches to prevention services, community organizing, school operations, and local youth service organizations and coalitions. Possess strong skills in developing coalitions, building and maintaining relationships among community organizational leaders. B.
Abilities:
Must be able to work independently while utilizing a team approach. Must have ability to work with a variety of persons such as parents, youth, and other community members in a positive, strength-based approach. Must have strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and time management skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Essential job duties may require regular lifting, pushing and pulling up to 10-20 pounds, and the ability to sit for long periods. The ability to hear normal conversational discussion and near and far visual clarity is required.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check. • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license, no alcohol related conviction, and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe.
INDIAN PREFERENCE
The position is subject to the Little Shell Tribe's Indian Preference Policy.
Pay:
$22.00 - $25.00 per hour
