Monmouth County SPCA Development Associate Department:

M-F 40 hours; occasional nights & weekends
Salary :
$35K-40K Annually
  • This position is set to start August 1st, 2026.
Summary:
The Monmouth County SPCA, a private, non-profit organization dedicated to animal welfare is seeking a Development Associate in their busy Development Department. The Development Associate should be clever, enterprising, and effective when working independently and with the team. This role requires a combination of creative, organizational, and analytical skills. Strong attention to detail and the ability to think on one's feet are a must. Our ideal candidate is a seasoned writer with an eye for design; capable of crafting compelling solicitations and effective acknowledgements for different audiences.
Responsibilities:
  • Fundraising/Stewardship Support ○ Write for newsletters, social media, gift acknowledgments, and other stewardship materials.
Short AND long-form writing skills required. ○ Design eye-catching and informative printed and digital materials for donor stewardship, community outreach, and fundraising initiatives. Experience with Canva preferred. ○ Research and apply for grant awards and other fundraising opportunities.
  • Gift Processing ○ Open mail, sort gifts, enter gift data into the CRM database, scan and upload gift documents into the computer drive. ○ Experience with DonorPerfect or other donor CRMs is a plus. ○ Competency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat preferred. ○ Reserve bandwidth to assist with these tasks primarily during the "giving season" (late Fall through early Winter).
  • Event Support ○ Attend and participate in the production of MCSPCA events, including set-up and break-down; should be comfortable acting as a point-person for volunteers at events. ○ Provide pre and post-event support by photographing and writing descriptions for auction items, working on event themes and decor, creating and sending acknowledgments for event supporters, etc.
  • Community Outreach ○ Supporting community outreach at the MCSPCA by assisting with Animal Rescue Summer Camp activities, corporate volunteers, community fundraisers, etc. ○ Occasionally represent the MCSPCA at outside events and fundraisers in the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Requirements:
  • One or more years of professional experience, preferable in a non-profit setting
  • Interested in a long-term role with potential for growth
  • Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Action-oriented, self-motivated, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to day-to-day work and long-term goals.
  • Detail oriented, strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects/priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively on an individual basis and in collaboration with diverse groups of people and with professionals at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to travel locally for occasional work events.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30lbs, climb steep stairs and stand/sit for extended periods of time during event planning and execution.
