Job Description

Carpenter Art Garden is expanding our school-day and after-school programs, and we are seeking a skilled and passionate Grant Writer to support our growing impact. This is an exciting opportunity to help secure funding that directly benefits children and teens through arts, education, and mentorship. The ideal candidate is a strong writer who is detail-oriented, creative, and committed to community-driven work. If you have experience (or strong interest) in grant writing, nonprofit development, or fundraising—and want to play a meaningful role in advancing youth programming—we would love to hear from you!
Duration:
Initially part-time for approx 4-5 months, with the potential to extend to a year-round role
Location:
Remote, with occasional coordination with Memphis-based staff
Scope of Work:
The grant writer will support Carpenter Art Garden's fundraising efforts, focusing on grant submissions, reporting, and pipeline development.
Key responsibilities include:
Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with CAG's mission Draft and submit 2-4 high-quality grant proposals per month Draft narrative grant reports and renewal applications in collaboration with program and leadership staff Track grant deadlines and maintain organized documentation Maintain a grant pipeline of $250,000+ in potential funding
Deliverables & Expectations:
Minimum of 2 new grant submissions per month Research 1-2 new funding opportunities per week Maintain updated pipeline and calendar of grants, submissions, and reporting deadlines Ensure all submissions and reports meet deadlines and quality standards Optional /
High-Value Work:
Additional hours may be allocated for urgent or high-value proposals ($50k+) Focus remains on maximizing grant revenue while maintaining 10 hours/week average
Application Requirements:
Resume or CV 1-2 examples of successful or funded grant proposals Three professional references who can speak to your work in grant writing or related writing projects Brief note describing your grant writing experience Preference will be given to those who: Are a member of the American Grant Writer's Association Hold the Certified Grant Writer professional credential Have knowledge of the federal system for Award Management (SAM.gov) Have knowledge of a Grant Manager System Are experienced in proposal package assembly and submission Possess strong writing and editing skills. Ability to create a strong, persuasive narrative Have the ability to work in grant management software - Blackbaud Grantmaking, Good Grants, AmpliFund, Neon CRM, Network for Good or other appropriate non-profit grant platforms.
