By Comunidades Unidas 5/11/2026 Fundraising and Development Comunidades Unidas is seeking a full-time Development Associate to co-lead our fundraising initiatives, primarily through relationship building, grant writing, and event coordination. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, skilled writer committed to power building and social justice, with the ability to authentically connect with diverse people. They are eager to build relationships and channel financial resources into community programs; understand how identity and systemic failures impact lived experiences; are committed to quality work; and are adaptable to new opportunities or challenges. Who We Are Comunidades Unidas (CU), founded in 1999, builds the social and political power of Latinx immigrants in Utah. We defend human rights by connecting our community to essential social services and organizing opportunities. Our values are love, respect, advocacy, inclusivity, and social justice. CU takes a holistic approach, offering free, culturally competent services in English and Spanish, informed by community voices. Programs include workers' rights and safety education, SNAP outreach, health connections, tobacco prevention, a 40-hour hotline, and emergency food assistance. Our organizing efforts foster community and leadership and provide members with tools to build power and create change. What You'll Do The Development Associate, who reports to the executive director, is responsible for: Grantwriting
  • research, writing, and submission of grants Grassroots Fundraising Coordination
  • assisting with planning and implementation of fundraising events and social media campaigns Donor Stewardship
  • donor touchpoints for small donors; designing thank you cards, writing, and sending them on a consistent basis. Grant Reporting and Expense Tracking
  • assisting with grant reporting, keeping deadlines, and tracking expended grant funds. Organizing Data and Infrastructure for the Development Program
  • keeping track of individual donors, submitted grants, and systems for stewardship and grant submission.
Who You Are & Keys to Success To be successful in this job, you will excel in the following areas: Attention to detail/organized: responsive to deadlines, manages time effectively, thorough in writing and reviewing grants to ensure clarity and compliance, stays on top of multiple projects, anticipates obstacles, identifies and involves stakeholders.
Relationship-building:
able to connect with individuals and build alliances among a wide range of stakeholders and diverse populations, including people of color, low-income families, and immigrants. Commitment to values: recognizes the role of race, gender, and other identities in shaping health disparities and political lived realities, and is driven to improve conditions. Ambitious/Self-starter
  • able to take on new projects after being trained with minimal guidance, exercises good judgment, willing and ready to learn new things.
Strong writing skills:
able to write clearly and effectively for the task at hand, whether that's persuasive, emotional, logical, or data-driven. Passionate about channeling resources into power-building and direct service work that benefits the Latinx/Immigrant community of Utah.
Nice-to-Haves:
Prior fundraising experience, bilingual in Spanish and English, an understanding of power-building work, and familiarity with the lived experience of Latinx immigrants are all pluses but not requirements. If you were here right now, you would be:
  • Writing thank you cards to the previous month's donors
  • Crafting a compelling proposal to obtain funds for an emergency food assistance program
  • Revamping the grant calendar to include prospects and deadlines.
  • Reviewing and answering Instagram messages for fundraising events.
  • Formatting the 2025 impact report to send to recurring donors
  • Phone call touchpoints to long-time donors ahead of sending the impact report

  • 52,000, with the exact amount depending on experience.
