BASIC FUNCTIONS
Under the direction and supervision of the Senator and the Chief of Staff, the District Coordinator serves as the supervisor of district office staff and performs duties including, but not limited to, establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with staff, and overseeing both the district staff and the Senator's schedule in the district at community meetings and events. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with elected officials, community leaders, and business groups in the district. Develops a long range calendar of district events. The District Coordinator oversees and delegates constituent casework and keeps reports.DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Senator and the Chief of Staff, the District Coordinator will work jointly with the Capitol Chief of Staff to ensure that the Senator's goals and objectives for the district are being carried out and addressed appropriately, in addition to supervising the operation of the Senator's district office. The District Coordinator will also represent or staff the Senator at meetings, events, and functions with constituents, and community groups. Candidates must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; respond to various types of correspondence; work effectively under pressure while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude; deliver excellent customer service. The District Coordinator develops district office protocols and procedures, and will establish a district office culture of excellence and respect; build and maintain constructive relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders; organize and structure employee duties and workload and supervise staff; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; follow office protocol and procedure when sending written communications on behalf of the Senator, design, manage, and evaluate programs; and maintain a cooperative and effective working relationship with staff and the Member.DESIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
The ideal candidate will be familiar with the particular legislative district, the legislative process, as well as the structure and policies of state government; effective coalition building and successful tools to manage an office; application of social capital and asset-based community development; public relations; basic office computer applications and social media platforms; the Senate's personnel rules, policies, and best practices regarding staff supervision, sexual harassment, and Equal Employment Opportunities. Candidates must have great organizational and supervisorial skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, professional environment.EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required. At least three (3) years relevant experience required. At least two (2) years supervisory experience required. Legislative experience preferred. Before being hired, candidates for this position are required to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Employee Pull Notice Program and must complete a DMV Form INF 1101, which authorizes the release of their driving record to the Senate Rules Committee. You must possess a valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record. In addition you are required to have proof of liability insurance at all times.NOTE:

This position is located in Sacramento, CA and requires in person attendance . The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may require after hours, holiday, or weekend work. Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience are required to reach the higher end of the salary range.
