Job Description

The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Commercial Leader to join our team. This role is pivotal in partnering with the areas to drive profitable growth. The focus will be on coaching Area Sales Leaders, driving pricing excellence, delivering volume requirements, enhancing commercial productivity, driving talent development and recruiting, and providing comprehensive support across various departments in the region. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset, execution drive, and excellent communication skills. The VP Commercial will support the Area Sales Leaders, who manage the sales activities, to maintain and grow profitable revenue streams for the region. You will support annual sales of more than $1.6 billion. You will also need to understand the performance of the region relative to base, growth, and attrition analysis; and year-over-year account progress. In addition, you will work closely with the area operations teams to understand and sell open machine capacity and focusing on our value-added capabilities. How you will impact
Smurfit Westrock:
Revenue/Price/Margin:
  • Achieve sales targets on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Drive price increases across all areas in the region
  • Analyze data for small, mid-size and large accounts to foster healthy balance of business
  • Collect and share updates on local account improvement plans, driving each to resolution
  • Listen for market, process, and seller concerns, identifying systemic issues and providing support
  • Share information about competitive pressures
Volume:
  • Monitor and address volume concerns in each plant, both high and low
  • Share insights on competitive pressures affecting volume
Commercial Productivity:
  • Share commercial productivity metrics and best practices
  • Work with Area Sales Leaders to develop margin improvement plans across the accounts.
  • Work with all Area Sales Leaders to reduce Working Capital and reduce aged AR, Finished Goods and customer tied paper inventory.
  • Identify and share opportunities to capture savings across the areas
Marketing Support:
  • Collaborate with Marketing to coordinate support for prospecting, promotional activity, and training.
  • Listen for area-specific needs to drive growth and margin improvement.
Comm Ex Support:
    Drive Commercial Excellence:
    Surpass regional volume and profit goals by developing new accounts in targeted market segments, expanding existing accounts, implementing margin improvement plans, and supporting enterprise-wide sales
    • Work with Commercial Excellence team to identify and address region-specific needs to drive growth and margin improvement with the Comm Ex team
    Manage:
    • Assist in setting annual budget targets for each area, forecasting revenue based on yearly sales trends, available capacity and current pipeline
    • Monitor profitability and track progress against budgeted targets and analyze monthly financial summaries for the region
    • Understand market dynamics and develop long-term commercial strategies based on market dynamics and business drivers to achieve company objectives
    Leadership:
      Motivate and Align Team:
      Inspire the Area Sales VPs to execute their area strategies, maximizing sales and profit growth
        Develop Relationships:
        Foster working relationships with other Smurfit Westrock facilities to create additional revenue opportunities across enterprise capabilities What you need to succeed:

        • Proven experience in commercial strategy, pricing, and volume management
        • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data
        • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
        • Ability to work collaboratively across departments
        • Bachelor\u2019s degree
        • 5 to 10 years of business-to-business (B2B) Sales experience in a manufacturing/service industry with management or coaching responsibility
        • 5+ years of related experience in leadership, sales execution, and pipeline management
        • Ability to drive results through others and adjust coaching methods, as needed
        • Ability to create and deliver engaging presentations to internal and external audiences
