Job Description
General Manager MGB Services - 2.2 Charlotte, NC Job Details Full-time 21 hours ago Benefits Paid holidays Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Vision insurance 401(k) matching Qualifications Delegation Full Job Description About MGB MGB is a multi-trade mechanical and life safety contractor serving commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. Our divisions include HVAC, fire protection systems, plumbing, and related life safety services. We protect buildings, occupants, and operations through expert installation, service, inspection, and emergency response — and we've built a reputation on doing the work right, on time, and in full compliance with code. We're growing, and we're looking for a General Manager who can lead the next chapter. The Opportunity The General Manager is the operational leader of MGB. You will own the day-to-day performance of the business across all trades, drive profitable growth, and build a high-performing team of division managers, project managers, service coordinators, and field technicians. You'll partner closely with ownership on strategy while running the company operationally. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands that in mechanical and life safety work, the difference between a good company and a great one comes down to disciplined operations, technical credibility, and genuine care for both customers and crews. What You'll Own Operations & Performance. Full P&L responsibility across HVAC, fire systems, plumbing, and life safety divisions. You'll drive labor utilization, gross margin, project delivery, and service response times — and you'll know your numbers cold. People & Leadership. Lead, coach, and develop division managers and operational staff. Build a culture where techs want to work, customers want to stay, and standards are non-negotiable. Recruit and retain skilled talent in a competitive trades market. Service & Recurring Revenue. Grow our inspection, testing, and maintenance agreement base — the backbone of a healthy life safety business. Ensure dispatch, scheduling, and compliance tracking systems are tight. Project Delivery. Oversee project management discipline across new construction, retrofit, and tenant improvement work. Hit budgets, hit schedules, manage change orders professionally, and keep clients informed. Compliance & Code. Maintain strong relationships with AHJs (fire marshals, mechanical inspectors, plumbing officials). Ensure all licensing, certifications, and code compliance requirements are current across every trade. Growth & Strategy. Partner with ownership on market expansion, new service offerings, key customer relationships, and acquisitions where appropriate. Safety. Champion a safety-first culture. Zero tolerance for shortcuts on jobsites or in trucks. What You Bring 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in mechanical contracting, life safety, fire protection, or a closely related trades industry Proven P&L ownership of a business or division generating meaningful revenue (multi-million dollar scale) Multi-trade or multi-division leadership experience strongly preferred Deep understanding of both service/recurring revenue businesses AND project-based work — and how to run them differently Strong financial acumen: you read a job cost report, an aged AR report, and a labor utilization report fluently Track record of building and retaining strong field and office teams Working knowledge of relevant codes (NFPA, IMC, IPC, IFC) and licensing requirements Excellent communicator — equally credible in the boardroom, on the jobsite, and at the customer's facility Bachelor's degree in business, construction management, engineering, or equivalent experience Industry certifications (PMP, NICET, CFPS, mechanical/plumbing licenses) are a plus What Sets the Right Candidate Apart You've personally turned around an underperforming division or built one from scratch You understand life safety compliance work — testing, inspection, monitoring — as a business model, not just a service line You've successfully integrated multiple trades or acquired companies into a unified operation You lead from the front but know how to delegate and develop others You have the technical credibility to be respected by your foremen and the business sense to be trusted by ownership What We Offer Competitive base salary commensurate with experience Performance-based annual bonus tied to company results Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits 401(k) with company match Company vehicle or vehicle allowance Paid time off and holidays Continuing education and certification support A genuine seat at the table with ownership and the chance to shape a growing company
