Job Description

JOB Under general supervision of the Vice President of Instruction serves small business clients located in Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey Counties. The North Carolina legislature funds the SBC through the North Carolina Community College System. Continued employment from year-to-year in this position is predicated upon the expected renewal of the availability of state funds for each calendar year. MCC will organize, staff, direct, provide services, and act as fiscal agent on behalf of the SBCN. Although working under the auspices of the SBCN, the SBC Director is an employee of the local Community College and therefore subject to the personnel policies, practices and procedures of MCC.Continued employment from year-to-year in this position is predicated upon the expected renewal of the availability of state funds for each calendar year. This position has been funded continuously since June of 1985.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Establish formal agreements and delineate specific services and roles with public organizations (e.g. Chambers of Commerce, economic development agencies, community college business departments, and offices of contract education), and with private individuals and firms (e.g., accountants, attorneys, marketing firms, and business consultants). Work closely with SBCN, Regional Directors and North Carolina EDCP Prosperity Zones.

Administer the operations of the program to meet SBCN program objectives and NCCCS Guidelines.

Develop and implement business and marketing plans to promote the program.

Supervise the development, planning, scheduling, publicizing, delivery, and evaluation of training.

Supervise and evaluate the full and part-time staff of the SBC.Provide one-on-one consulting, particularly in the areas of business planning, management, and financial analysis.

Maintain a dedicated SBC Resource Center.

Attend professional development programs as required or recommended by State SBC Director.

Manage the
SBCN CMS
client activity tracking system and maintain records necessary for audit trails, program evaluation, and follow-up; prepare reports.

Oversee budget development and expenditures.

Chair a local SBC Advisory Committee that meets annually.

Provide the SBC Annual Progress Report to the SBCN State Director;Perform related duties as assigned.
