The organization lives by its motto: "Purpose, meet doing."Position Overview:
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive and strategic leader of RGCDC, responsible for advancing the organization's mission, ensuring financial sustainability, and overseeing all programs, operations, and partnerships. A typical day for the Executive Director involves a blend of strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and operational oversight. The day may include reviewing financial reports and progress updates on ongoing projects. Meetings with board members, community stakeholders, and staff members fill the schedule, providing opportunities to align goals, address challenges, and foster collaboration. The Executive Director may also dedicate time to fundraising efforts, policy development, and staff management, ensuring that the organization operates smoothly and effectively towards achieving its mission and vision.Responsibilities:
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, with the primary responsibility of translating the organization's approved vision and mission, as approved by the Board, into actionable strategies and initiatives, effectively utilizing all available resources to achieve this goal. The following are core responsibilities of the role, which may encompass additional tasks as deemed necessary for the position's success and the ongoing development ofRGCDC:
Represent the organization, embodying its culture, values, and mission/vision. Cultivate a cohesive organizational culture by establishing procedures, practices, guidelines, and systems rooted in the organization's values as approved by the Board of Directors. This includes fostering an environment where diversity is embraced, creativity is encouraged, learning is valued, and collaboration is paramount, ensuring that all organizational activities align with and reflect these core values. Provide strong executive leadership to the organization's staff, offering comprehensive guidance and direction to all departments within the organization. Oversee all aspects of hiring, retaining, managing, and dismissing employees and contractors, including establishing salary levels, employee benefits, and personnel files. Create or maintain, in collaboration with appropriate staff, the procedures to ensure effective employee evaluation, approval of leave time, performance reviews, and work schedules. Develop and implement, in collaboration with the Board of Directors and the community, a long-term work plan to pursue the organization's vision, devising short and medium-term objectives aligned with the organization's resources. In collaboration with appropriate staff, develop or update the organization's policies for Board approval and oversee the adherence of the approved policies throughout the organization functions. Harness stewardship practices to build and maintain relationships with the organization's stakeholders, including community members and leaders, government officials, funders, regulatory bodies, and civic organizations. This serves the goal of representing the organization while acquiring a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the community. Act as a spokesperson for the organization, representing it in public forums, media appearances, and speaking engagements to enhance its visibility and credibility. Maintain or improve the organization's structure, systems, guidelines, and procedures in collaboration with appropriate staff. Develop and implement, in collaboration with appropriate staff, an innovative and comprehensive fundraising and operational strategy that engages the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers. Develop and implement, in collaboration with appropriate staff, the organization's annual budget for Board approval and oversee its appropriate implementation. Ensure the financial stability of the RGCDC in collaboration with appropriate staff by maintaining full awareness of the complete financial, statistical, and accounting records of the organization. Oversee the organization's risk management and risk mitigation in collaboration with appropriate staff. Ensure internal and external compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory bodies, including the local Health Department, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and U.S. Department of Transportation, in collaboration with appropriate staff. In coordination with the Board Chair, oversee and manage the relation and guidance of the organization's legal counsel in all legal matters. Act as or appoint a safety manager for each RGCDC location, ensuring adherence to all safety and health policies, procedures, rules, and regulations established by RGCDC and external regulatory bodies. Ultimately, prioritize the safety of employees and all individuals within RGCDC facilities as the primary objective. Develop, improve, and maintain, in collaboration with the appropriate staff for board approval, the organization's evaluation criteria and performance indicators.Skills and core attributes:
We are seeking passionate and driven professionals who are committed to working collaboratively with community members towards a brighter future. Educational and Experience Must have a bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration or related field, or in place of a degree, at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. 5+ years of related experience in nonprofit governance principles, working with a board of directors, and nonprofit laws and regulations, including tax-exempt status, reporting requirements, and compliance with applicable laws, is preferred, but not required. Master's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing, Communications, Organizational Leadership, or a related field is desired, but not required. Hard Skills Experience in economic development, food systems, or small business support Experience working with a Board of Directors Grant writing and fundraising experience Technical written communication skills required. Proficient in computer skills, including MS Office, Google Suite, Adobe, and CRM software. Data analysis skills, such as using financial, operational, and fundraising data to inform the development of strategies. Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Bilingual candidates preferred (priority languages: Spanish, French, Navajo, or an indigenous language), but not required. Fundraising and Grant Writing skills are preferred but not required, including developing fundraising strategies, writing grant proposals, and cultivating donor relationships. Must have community-driven leadership skills demonstrated by the ability to provide guidance, mentorship, and direction to team members and volunteers in service of the community. Must have innovative strategic thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to identify and pursue new opportunities and partnerships that align with the organization's mission and values. Must have emotional intelligence skills demonstrated by the ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics with empathy, compassion, and a commitment to building authentic relationships with staff, volunteers, donors, board members, and community members. Must have strong time management and organizational skills demonstrated by the ability to use time wisely to ensure deadlines are met.
